The only thing I would like is the flat black helmets.
"If it ain't broke don't fix it." Some of the best advice I was ever given.
I always have liked the Dallas Cowboy uniform where they wear white shirts at home or on the road, unless the opponent wears white at home. I would not mind Iowa wearing the white tops and the gold pants sporting the glossy black helmets for home games.
I think the uniform is fine, I wouldn't change a thing, but I wouldn't mind if the helmets had a matte finish. Also, move the ANF sticker to the back of the helmet. It kind of looks out of place above the Tigerhawk. Add an American flag too.
If you ask anyone with a marketing background if they think Iowa should change up their uniforms from time to time, they will most likely say "no". It takes takes a lot of resources and planning to build a brand. Iowa's football helmet and jersey has almost become iconic, and that's something that is hard to put a price on. It's a nationally recognized brand AS IS. When you change that image, you create brand confusion.
As a guy with a marketing degree, if Iowa was to make any kind of change I think it would need to be an all-black uniform (pants/jersey/helmet) with a flat black helmet. It's a slight deviation, but it doesn't create brand confusion. You wouldn't want to use this in a night game though, because most QB's like to be able to see their receivers.
Otherwise, it needs to be left alone. Oregon wasn't in Iowa's position when they began their uniform bonanza. They didn't have a nationally-recognized brand. How many of you remember what their uniforms looked like BEFORE the Nike money?

....That's what I thought.
The Tigerhawk is our brand and I would never change that, but an alternate uniform with a different helmet design would be great for special games. There is nothing unique about our uniforms and it would be nice for recruiting. If you ask anyone with a marketing background if they think Iowa should change up their uniforms from time to time, they will most likely say "no".
