NEW UNIFORMS

My Hawkeye Nation account activated today.... HOORAY! Anyways, I'm sure this may have been a topic talked about in the past, but I wanted to see what everyone thinks of the idea of a uniform change. I understand that Iowa prides itself on tradition and all that jazz so maybe a complete uniform change won't be coming anytime soon. However, I do think it'd be pretty exciting even if we had an alternate uniform that was worn once or twice a year. Aside from the "USA stickered Herkey" on the helmets, I can only remember some throwback uniforms that were worn back when Chad Greenway was on the team. I also did some research and realized we wore some knock-off Green Bay Packer unis as well (via Bleacher Report). As far as logos go, I would rank Iowa up there among the best. There's just so many possibilities that Nike could play with to give us a different look. Why not some all black uniforms? Why not a black matte helmet? Why not yellow jerseys? Facilities aren't the only thing attracting athletes (dipping into recruiting may have been a stretch) but still; I wanted to see how others felt. Young Hawks and Old Hawks.

Uniform is still one of the best around period.

A couple yrs ago a Michigan fan on their boards went thru every BIG 10 analyzing the uniforms & pretty much said now Iowa did it right, with a logo for people to identify with along. He said it was the only team that he wouldn't change.

Iowa's uniforms are perfect the way they are. Any recruit who bases his decision on ugly uniform options can keep moving to the bug eaters or Oregon.

Sadly, recruits do care about these flashy uniforms that teams are using. ESPN did a story on it last year.
If Iowa doesn't do it they are just passing up a cheap way to tantilize recruits and sell more gear. I would like to hear one reasonable excuse for not doing this. Don't give me the traditional uniform crap because our uniforms are dated bad. Leave the Tigerhawk alone but the possibilities are endless when it comes to the uniforms. The grey uniform with the flag hawk was the saddest attempt I have ever seen. A 6th grade art student could have done better. Our uniforms don't have to be as stale as our playbook!

We had other uniforms.

Crack Hawk

I don't think Iowa should ever change their look, they've got something pinned down that a lot of other teams want, a look that's iconic to their team. They aren't just "Steelers ripoffs" as some people say, there are some unique differences.

That said, there's no reason why we can't have an alternate for special occasions(I.E. Night games), and we should. That doesn't mean go ******* crazy like the Purdue game the other year and have your equipment manager whip something up instead of Nike.. Something sticking with the style but expanding on it and bringing it to the modern age would be perfect. Contrary to popular belief it does help in recruiting, because it's marketing. It shows a team that wants to build hype and stand out. And I've seen a lot people being critical of Iowa's (lack of) marketing lately.

Here are some mock-ups I threw together a while back. I think a Hawkeye Pro Combat alt uniform would have a lot of potential to be cool, while still sticking with tradition.

Let's focus on that water tower first, though. ;)

I actually kind of like these. They don't stray too far from what we have now.

How about somewhere in between Oregon (Who have a different uni every week) and where the Hawks are it (Which is about the same as it was in the late 70's with Hayden Fry.) The uni's were great when he changed them, but 35 years of essentially the same uni is dull and boring.

If I wore the same thing I did 35 years ago I'd be in polyester leisure suits and platform shoes.

Pretty good description of our offense.

Crack Hawk

I hated the Crack Hawk and the Banana wings. Those were some lousy teams, FYI.

I just took my breathing tube out, so I'll add one more comment.

If an alternate uniform would help us win a big game, I'm all for it. I'm just not sure the alternate unis really help us win games.

OK I'm out of breath. Back to the breathing tube and the morphine drip. This old man is signing off

The "throwback Green Bay uniforms" were actually throw back uniforms honoring the 1958 team. Iowa wore that style all through the Evashevski years. Those were some of the very best teams in Iowa history. The uniform you are referring to was honoring the 1921 team.

OK back to the breathing tube. I'm exhausted

I like the uniform and the existing Tigerhawk logo.

I can support an alternate uniform for homecoming, I like those 1958 or 59 uniforms we wore a few years back. But on the whole, keep the current look it works.

Iowa is not Oregon, definitely not Maryland.

We need all the help we can get recruiting wise. Do it every once in awhile. Oh wait, same old boring "pro" form offense and a coach that can't adapt to get to the next level in anything.
Thanks for making isu a "rivalry" btw. Crap gets old.
Bunch of old stubborn people that complain what the program is or isn't but would complain on an occasional uniform change to get recruits interested.
Stupid
