new DC should be from Nebraska's staff

Nebraska, under Carl Pelini, had outstanding defenses.
Great Dlines. Linebackers that could move. NFL quality corners.

Since Carl Pelini is leaving Nebraska, Ferentz should hire his next DC from Carl Pelini's old staff at Nebraska.

Iowa's NFL quality corners? Nah. They play too much of a soft zone.
Iowa's fast linebackers - any as fast as David of Nebby? Ah, Nah.

Spievey, Prater, Fletcher

Yeah, David is much better than the guys that are 3rd and 4th in tackles in the NFL.

Also, rookies Clayborn and Klug both have twice as many sacks as Suh does. So............

Try again.

Boat, why do you guys continue to 'crow' about Iowa's NFL players that were on teams that had 7-5 records and gave poor defensive performances while at Iowa?

IMO, this shows a lack of coaching ability at Iowa. IMO, Iowa coaches get mediocre results from NFL-quality athletes.

Nothing to 'crow' about.

How many trophies does Bo Pelini have? I admit, good coach, but he doesn't have any national coach of the year awards, like ferentz. I don't buy it that Iowa coaches can't coach

You're just flat out wrong, guy. Besides the two brothers there is not a legit DC candidate on that staff, other than maybe Papuchis, and that's a big maybe.

Hmmm, that bolded part reminds me of another guy's defenses. What's his name again? Oh, that's right, Norm Parker. He had some pretty outstanding defenses too.
2011-Iowa total defense-68th (scoring-42nd)
Nebraska total defense-36th (scoring-39th)
2010-Iowa 25th (7th)
Nebraska 11th (9th)
2009-Iowa 10th (8th)
Nebraska 7th (1st)
2008-Iowa 12th (5th)
Nebraska 55th (80th)

Don't tell me that Iowa hasn't produced LBs that can "move". Greenway, Hodge, Hunter, Angerer, Edds, Morris and Kirksey. Carl Pelini has had 4 DBs (Amukamara, DeJon Gomes, Eric Hagg and Larry Asante) drafted by the NFL since coming to Nebraska. Iowa has also had four (Sash, Spievey, Fletcher and Godfrey). Go and look up their PT and tell me our guys aren't having a bigger impact.

Next there is the argument that they gave poor performances while at Iowa? Where are you coming from? They may not have been fabulous every game, but to make it sound like they were crappy is downright stupid.

I resent Fremonthawk's insinuation I'm a troll. Hey, dude, do you know what a troll is? A troll is someone who posts 42 times and also automatically thinks someone is a troll if they criticize Parker's D.

I've been a Hawkeye fan since Evy was a coach at Iowa. How long have you been a Hawkeye fan, putz?

Anyway, for Iowa to be any good under Ferentz, the team needs a staunch defense.
Iowa has never had a staunch defense under Parker - could never stop the pass -
is why Iowa's D could never get off the field on 3rd down.

IMO, Pelini's blackshirt defense at Nebraska was a stauch defense.

Let me use this comparison:
Could Nebraska's defense stop Iowa's offense of 2011? - yes, they did.
Could Parker's defense ever stop Iowa's passing offense of 2011? - no way.

To be fair, Spievey switched to safety. And the jury is still out on Prater, IMO.

Suh is also the focal point for offensive lines, whereas Clayborn and Klug are not. He also plays defensive tackle, a position that rarely gathers as many sacks as defensive end.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but this makes it look like the Pelini's have done more with less. Add into the Mix that the Pelini's have been at NU for olnly 4 years, where as Parker has been at Iowa for more than 10 years and the turnaround from 2008 to 2009/2010 for Nebraska, and the OP makes a valid point.

Many Nebraska fans would gladly give you Ross Els or Corey Raymond. Heck, they would throw in Barney Cotton as a freebie.
