Nebraska wants to re-join the Big 12 conference

Guess NU has been thinking about this for about a year now, below I copied and pasted this from an article about NU wanting back in the Big 12...........

"There has been a lot of talk about the Big 12 wanting to explore conference expansion, especially considering the conference advertises in its title that it has 12 schools, though it now really only has 10.
Between 2010 and 2013, four schools left the conference, reducing it from 12 to eight teams. Those schools included Nebraska, Texas A&M, Missouri and Colorado. The conference added TCU and West Virginia to make up for the exodus.
Now a report says Nebraska, which moved to the Big Ten, wants to rejoin the Big 12.
Radio host Tim Montemayor reported Wednesday that the Cornhuskers want to rejoin the Big 12.
Previously, Kansas State's Bill Snyder had said two former Big 12 members wanted to rejoin the conference. His comments over the summer seemed to hint that Nebraska wanted back in, so that would support this report.
Monty also says this new conference, if it were to form, would likely have a new name. He says there is also some bitterness between rivals Texas and Oklahoma over the Longhorns' efforts to build this new conference, which might not include the Sooners.
Ultimately it seems there are big changes in store for the conference currently known as the Big 12."

It could be an amicable divorce. The B1G isn't thrilled with Nebraska's academic resume. I bet the talking heads bring up Penn State in this discussion as well.

Sorry, but that argument about academics is pretty lame. Iowa, Nebby, MSU are all petty equal on research and academic requirements. WIsky, Mich, and even IL could complain about Iowa and MSU. Take away medical research and Iowa really doesn't have much. Nebby gets a lot of funding from USDA which UMN, MSU, IL, PSU, Purdue, Wisky, OSU, Rutgers, and Maryland all get.

If they leave the Big Ten and the Big Ten wants them gone it will be about money to the athletic department. PSU isn't going anywhere.

Great! They can take their 1.6 million people and leave. It ain't going to happen, but I would be all in favor of them departing

Not sure why Nebby would be under the other bottom academic universities in the Big Ten. U Iowa really doesn't have much of anything over them in standards or research. I would guess that Nebby actually has more research due to USDA, but probably under ISU based on what is generated and useful. There probably are politics at play.

I don't find PSU joke particularly funny. Interesting article. And Iowa does have low research and a pretty low academic standard compared to other B 10s. However, that has little impact on football at any school.

Why would NU want to rejoin the Big 12? It's best days are behind the Big12. Their heyday has come and gone. The TV share that NU would get tn the B12 wouldn't come close to what they would get in the B10. Money talks, academics walks.

Their brand is damaged because they can't win consistently in the Big Ten. I'm not sure they will win consistently in the Big 12, either. The world has changed a lot since 1995. I think today's top athletes view LIncoln as a spot almost as desolate as Laramie, Wyoming. Recruiting is becoming a huge issue for them

Omaha is a pretty big market along with KC. I just don't see them going anywhere. Lincoln is not Laramie, but still most any university is like the field of dreams. Build it and they will come. Nebby made some big mistakes on coaching hirings/firings and they are paying for that. A good coach with good facilities can and will change that.

I'm hearing excuses much like why Iowa can't be consistent. When one has a coach that doesn't believe they can be consistent, then that program won't be consistent.

Anyone who thinks Nebby can't rebuild is wrong. Anyone who thinks Iowa can't be more consstent is wrong.

When KF is gone the future won't be bad or good because he is gone. It will be based on who they hire. Nebby probably would have had similar results regardless of the conference last year. This year, the B12 and the B10 has no one/ no one else that can complete with OSU. ISU, KU, Purdue, IL Rutgers, Purdue are all about the same.

I agree that their brand may benefit from another conference. However, until and unless they start winning -say on the level of MSU recently - they're brand isn't going to ascend regardless of where they are.

One brand thing is the Black Friday game - if they say that the opponent (iowa) does not have enough gravitas - ok, I get that. At the same time, Michigan and OSU have their dance cards filled - sorry. So going down the brand food chain - how about a date with PSU? Sorry, their brand had fallen and offers no assistance to N. OK how about a game with Michigan state? Wisconsin? Their brands are only slightly better than Iowas -Still way short of Oklahoma's brand.

So, yes, I get it.

Are these credible sources that are cited in the article anyway? Or is this just clever stuff coming from the XII conference intended to drive a wedge between N and B1G?

If Nebraska were to leave, you'd think a conference may want to question partnering with a University that has absolutely no loyalty and has proven multiple times they will go a different route to chase the almighty $$.
