NCAA Wrestling Brackets are out!!!

In general, I'm pretty happy with the brackets for the Hawks.

McD - Bedelyon has already beat Delgado once this year (way back in November, 9-3) so let's hope it happens again. Delgado is really wrestling at a high level right now. Also, McDonough's potential quarters opponent, Mango, is an interesting matchup. He was at 133 all year and moved down to 125 right at the end of January. McD has faced him 3 times before, scoring MDs each time.

Ramos - I actually feel pretty good about his road to the semis. Carter is going to be tough (obviously), but Tony's W over him back at NCAA duals was huge confidence-wise.

Marion - Ugh, Novachkov. That's brutal. I was really hoping for Stieber to get the #6 seed. Montell HAS to be on the offense in this match. Novachkov is a dominant rider and has really good defense. If he can get into the semis I LOVE his chances against Maple. Montell had that match in the Midlands final, just waited too long to start his offense. He dominated the 3rd period there, just ran out of time.

DSJ - I'm okay with DSJ's path. While there won't be much opportunity for bonus points, he's clearly better than the guys he'll see on his way to the semis. Everyone on the OTS is freaking out about a 1st round matchup with Houdashelt, the Big 12 champ. I know he only has 5 losses, but he has ZERO wins against a seeded wrestler (his best win is over either Pena (11-7) or Albert White (who he's knocked off 3 times). Also, while at first glance a rematch with Pena in the 2nd round is scary (Pena DID beat DSJ by MD at NCAA duals), that match was almost a month ago. Unlike the last time they faced, DSJ is really looking for his own offense rather than just relying on counters to score TDs. I think he'll be fine. Alton in the quarters is obviously scary, but better a guy DSJ already beat than one of the other top 8 seeds.

Evans - Ugh. Brutal being on the side of the bracket with both Dake and #4 Bekzod. Also, he needs to be on his game right away. Both his 1st and 2nd round matchups are going to be tough. We can't afford to have unfocused Evans out there on Thursday. I don't know how Sorenson got the #3 seed. That was a gift. He should have a cakewalk to the Semis. Evans really should be the #6 seed. Asper dropped like a rock after going from an undefeated record to losing in the ACC final in SV.

Lofthouse - Love his bracket up to the semis. I think he's figured out Storley (if he didn't have the lapse at the end of the 3rd period in their last matchup, he'd be looking at 2 consecutive victories over the guy). Ruth will be another story.

Gambrall - For an unseeded guy, he got a decent draw. Better to face Loder (who Grant is 2-1 against in his career) than any of the top 7 seeds. If Grant were to somehow make it to the quarters, he did beat LeBlanc in last year's NCAA quarters, 8-3.

Telford - Shouldn't have any trouble making it to the quarters. He's already got a victory over #12 Gibson in the Iowa-ISU dual, winning 9-3. I don't think he has a snowball's chance in he!! of beating Rey in the quarters though.

Good news is he won't wrestle Dake, bad news is he'll probably meet Taylor again. All in all, pretty good seeds. Can't wait!

Good breakdown Twade! Hawks definitely have some very tough match ups in the Qtrs this year. Especially for Ramos, MM, Evans, Lofthouse, and Telford.
(Think MM has the toughest Qtr)
Hopefully DSJ can knock out Alton in the Qtrs if they wrestle again.

Ramos also has a pretty tough first round match against Brian Owens. (Boise)
Believe Telford would have been better off getting the #6 seed as he now has both Flores and Rey in his bracket. (Still trying to figure out how the seeding committee gave Jack from OrST a higher seed then Rey)
This really helps Wade (Penn St) as he received the #6 seed and it wouldn't shock me if he beats Jack in the Qtrs.

If GG can win his first round match against Loder (UNI) it wouldn't surprise me if he reaches the Semi's or maybe even the finals.

Based on brackets it appears Penn St will score good bonus pts at
149, 165, 174, and 184. (Very generous of the seeding committee to give Ruth the #1 seed.....puts him in a very nice bracket)
Would love to see Grajales upset Molinaro in the Qtrs.
Good news is that Penn St should lose at 125, 133, and 197 very early in the tourney. (133 wrestler faces Oliver in first round and 197 will most likely face #1 Simaz in Qtrs)

Based on the brutal draws Okie St received (excluding Chris Perry) I don't see them competing for the team title this year.

Wouldn't surprise me if Joe Colon (UNI) reaches the Semis where he would most likely face Jordan Oliver.

GO HAWKS!

174- I too think EL can beat storley, just has to finish the third period. Thats where he lost his two matches.

But, he may not get Storley, Martinez {spelling} from Wyoming, might beat Storley. Thats my upset special at this weight.
Go Hawks
