NCAA Why Not Des Moines

Des Moines, which has hosted recent championship events in wrestling, women’s basketball and track, could be the type of city that benefits from the NCAA’s new strategy.

Lewis described himself as “impressed” by the recent wrestling event, after a successful run that included every session selling out in 14 minutes.

Last year, NCAA President Mark Emmert told the Register while attending the women’s basketball regional in Des Moines that the city’s efforts have been strong. “My people have been raving,” he said, referring to a regional tournament that led the nation in attendance in 2012. “The attendance ... also has left a very favorable impression.”

The city and host Drake University also have been awarded multiple track and field championships....

The city’s diverse NCAA resume now has the chance to merge with a new way of determining sites that could increase opportunities even more.

Mark Lewis, NCAA executive vice president of championships and alliances, said, “I hope Des Moines bids for a lot of things.

No its not, flat out false. Dayton 141K 2010 census, declining population.

You are just counting Dayton and not the metro area, plus they are only 40 minutes north of Cincinnati.

Out of wiki:

Dayton (pron.: /ˈdeɪtn/) is the 6th largest city in the U.S. state of Ohio and is the county seat of Montgomery County.[4] At the 2010 census, the population was 141,527; the Dayton metropolitan area had 841,502 residents, making it the fourth largest metropolitan area in Ohio and the 61st largest in the United States.[5] The Dayton-Springfield-Greenville Combined Statistical Area had a population of 1,072,891 in 2010 and is the 43rd largest in the United States.[6] Dayton is situated within the Miami Valley region of Ohio just north of the Cincinnati–Northern Kentucky metropolitan area.

There is a reason why Dayton has hosted the most NCAA basketball tournament games.

Hopefully someday it will happen for Des Moines.

Yes some would have to stay in the hotels in the Jordan Creek Area but that's only a 15min ride to downtown.

On a normal day 15 minutes, factor in that we have NCAA tourny games being played in our city and traffic congestion is going to sky rocket.

Des Moines as a city has a greater population than Dayton however Dayton's metro area, which means more, is bigger. It's about 800,000 while Des Moines' is a little over 600,000. Wikipedia is my source.

DSM is in big trouble now that the New Pauley Pavilion will be available, at a minimum, right after the first round.

You're right - I was thinking Four Seasons - they own Ritz in Chi-town and it is sick - I had it backwards. Peninsula is on par though, brah.
Whenever I travel to Chi I always stay at the Congress Plaza. It has good location, and if I pretend the strikers are actually people protesting me, it always gives me a feeling of importance as I wade through the haters on my way out the door.

Come on now. I'm sure there's unlimited entertainment in Wacked-O for a 6'8" shemale.

I hear those Texas dudes dig the low-talkin' Y-chromosomed chicks.

Precisely the reason rednecks have these on their trucks
