NBA can't shake loose of thuggish image

You can't just say "race card" as a shield against saying racist things. That's not how it works. You can't complain about tame incidents, use racially tinted buzz words, and then cry when you get called for it.

i dont consider "thug" a racial word and neither does Webster's. dial down the hypersensitivity.

knocking a player to the floor with an elbow is a tame event?

It is not an image--they are all thugs. 80% of them will be bankrupt five years into retirement----there is justice in the world :)

I sort of feel sorry for David Stern. Shortened season due to greedy players.
Greedy player thinks its a good idea to tell press players should get paid for time in Olympics.

Fan beater Ron Artest, Metta World Peace, throws viscious elbow sending player to the floor. Stern reaponds with not so viscious suspension. MWP lies about incident with no real punishment.

Rondo bumps ref and gets minor suspension. Rondo lies about what happened and gets no additional punishment.

Why would people want to watch this garbage.

I'd much rather watch the NBA's "greedy thuggish players" than college basketball which is completely void of talent save a few freshman just counting the days until they can get to the NBA.

Yeah, le elbow to le head was a tame event...that was le point I was trying to make.

The NFL seems to have a systemic problem where coaches are instructing players to attack the heads of others, but that one elbow in le NBA? Thuggish behavior that is unwatchable.

Hockey is a game where at least once a game, players just have a fist fight in the middle of le game...but that one elbow in le NBA? Unwatchable thuggish behavior.

try to stay focussed. if u want to discuss the general level of violence in sports feel free to start a new thread. i wont disagree with you.

this thread was focused on the NBA and the recent events in said league.

i get your point that anyone who calls out someone for what most describe as a vicious cheapshot must somehow be a racist.

i get your point that bumping a ref is really a sign of respect and anyone who says otherwise is a racist

the guy who threw the bow was suspended for one and a half playoff series, not a light punishment. your original argument falls flat on so many levels beyond the obvious (to everyone but you) racial overtones. you don't like the NBA, got it.

we have to agree to disagree on the severity of artests punishment. i happen to think that he is a repeat offender when it comes to violence and the league would be wise to come down harsher.

duff we've gone back and forth before on a similar issue so i know we will not be able to find common ground on this one.

i get that your default view is thug = black. i dont see it that way.

im not sure we as a nation will ever reach the point where we can have pointed conversations about the actions of others without viewing the words from the lens of skin color. i want to get there but it seems we have quite a ways to go.

Hawkeyeswin, just understand that you can't start a thread around here without the
"legends" like Ghost and Duff, etc arguing with you no matter what the thread is. I happen to agree with your OP for the most part, and I didn't see it as racist. Just ignore them, they hijack every thread. This board is almost unreadable anymore

Teh reals badassess are the soccer(fake football) players that are thug enough to be able to fake and injury.....or are they just that tough that it only hurts for a sec. Thug life........also I dont see color.

Ah yes, we all long for the days when we could take not so thinly veiled shots at black people with no one judging us. Sadly for guys like you and hawkswin, those days appear to be gone.

I'm hitting the imaginary "like" button on this post.

1. The owners locked out the players. Then they proceeded to beat the pants off of the players union in the new CBA. And the players are the greedy ones? Wrong.

2. The NBA has never been cleaner,on or off the court. Bill Lambeir used to throw Artest-like elbows on a regular basis, with no suspension. Now there was a thug-like team, with Lambeir,Mahorn,Thomas and Rodman...nothing today compares to those guys...or even the Knicks team that was coached by the Miami Heat GM.

3. The league is flying high now with young stars like Lebron,Durant,Rose and Westbrook...all high flyers who are allowed to get to the hoop way easier than in the 80's.

Stern is doing just fine.
