Nate Meier to DE?

Perhaps I am remembering incorrectly, but wasn't be working out with linebackers or rumored to be moving there instead?
Either way... If he's athletic/strong enough to do it, then I say have at it! Whatever gives us the best chance to win.

I agree with Duffman...Nate is a very dynamic athlete. I am very excited about this news...he is as strong as an ox and has good speed and agility. Exciting news....

Intersting move, hope it sticks. Iowa needs all the help they can get on the edges up front. Only returning one proven body at DE with a handful of guy's who may or may not be contributors.

Meyer came in at 6'2 235ish, originally thought he might land at DT, but maybe DE is a better fit.

Kinda undersized.

He's more than capable of putting on some good weight. Plus he has above average strength. From what I read about the kid, he's a freak in the weight room and was reportedly benching near 400 lbs. coming out of high school.

If he came in at a true 235, he's in the 240's now. Could be a great third down guy, who can beat the tackle off the edge this year. I've heard this kid is a wrecking ball and made waves last year as being very difficult to block. If they moved him to DE this quickly, it means he can put on size to play the position. Guys like this, RB in HS, with some speed and power, can really make plays as they typically maintain the quicks even with the additional weight.

We need guys like that in the biggest way right now.

I thought I'd heard before in Coach Doyle's system an athlete can put on 12-15lbs per year without giving up a bunch of speed/agility/quicks. If this is true, and the kid is a manimal in the gym, then we might have a beast on our hands.
I like it. I like it A LOT!

So then he is 250 going against 325 lb linemen, brand new to d line? I want to be optimistic here guys but 1) lets not get carried away and 2) I hope we have a plan b. or is this plan b?

Have you noticed that speed rushers are all the rage in both the NFL and college ball? Guys like Matthews of Green Bay were lbs in college and run by the 325lb tackles like their feet are in cement.

I like this move. We need DE's. The frosh from nebraska last year got his feet wet,and Dominic Alvis should be set up for a good senior year. Need more depth.
