Nate Kaeding chimes in and defends his coach

I dont need to. Its not like I want to hear negative things. I just know everything is going to be sugar coated. I dont care to read a fluff piece made to pat Kirk on the back, and try to tell everyone that everything is okay.

I hope you are very old, out of town. If you are young and this cynical, you will have a deeply unhappy life. Also, as an old guy I would tell you, if you are reluctant about reading the thoughts of others, you will never grow. I believe that you can judge the actions of others, including KF. But, if you get into defining the motivation behind their actions, you are merely claiming to be omnipotent. As we say these days, "good luck with that."

hahahaha. Thats funny.

Do you want to talk about how pumped the Minnesota coach was the last two years? He even has health problems. Or Northwestern. Who do you want to talk about? All these coaches can get their players pumped to play Iowa. Whats wrong with Kirk?

Why don't Minny and NW win ALL of their games? I mean they have the most excited coaches on the field, so that means they win the game, right? We all know that emotion on the sidelines = wins, why don't all coaches act like nut bags?

Well...I'd like to know how in the hell the Hawks won so many games in the past if only the pumped up kicks win the race...

Was Kirk on air guitar then?

He had a healthy Norm. Norms defense, Banks, and Greene are the reason Kirk did well a couple times. He had two unstoppable offensive players paired with great defenses. He doesnt have those things anymore.

They dont win because they are not as good. Yet Kirk plays down to or below these teams. I dont understand how you think its acceptable to lose to these teams?

So let me ask you this question. If Kirk jumped around and played his air guitar and we still lose to the clowns and the chips would you still want him fired OR wish that Iowa lost every game until he is fired?

Who said it was acceptable to lose to teams worse than us? What is unacceptable is to root for Iowa to lose every game. Plus why are you sooooooo outraged that Iowa is losing games, it seems that is what you are rooting for, so you should be happy, right?

Funny, out of town? funny? As you youngsters would say, "Is that all you've got?" Or, did I hit a nerve? Probably not, since you are short in that department.

There was one thing I found really, really interesting in that column....

The part where he mentioned some of the things KF would say to the team. One of them was, "There is no big picture." Do you think that's KFs way of having the team only worry about each game as it comes along and the "big picture" will take care of itself? I guess I've never heard of an executive not having his group focus on the big picture to understand why the details matter.

Then again, I'm probably reading too much into it! :D

I can see the idea of a football coach saying "no big picture". Wins are just a result of winning each play. executing each play, preparation day in and day out. The big picture is the buisness of the HC and coaches. I get it.

Its cause I like you. Its not like Im the only one on here anymore that wants him gone. I think Frans a good coach if that helps. Atleast I can tell hes awake.

Punctuation is a great thing, dude. Also, why are you here? Are you a troll? Conversely, are you just a really negative guy who gets off on this kind of thing?

This kind of situation is true for a lot of college teams. UW's situation comes to mind...

Quite honestly, that quote stopped me in my tracks. I am still rolling it around my mind. It is pretty profound if only for its rarity. Not saying its good or bad, or universally applicable. I do know I am always looking ahead and thinking on macro levels with the projects I am working on...however, when I get too far afield from today, I forget about the details that need to be done today, that have to be done today in order to have a chance at attaining the goals I have set for my tomorrows. I've never heard 'There is no big picture.' before. Maybe I've heard it in different ways, but never like that. Very interesting to think about.

Which press conference was it that KF took the blame for letting Iowa fall behind in the facilities atm race? When there is no big picture, it starts to make sense as to how that happened.

doubt you read the article, cause your statements are blatantly out of context. the full quote is this “There is no big picture. Take it one step at a time.” and is referring to the rough times in the 2000 season.

now if you want to somehow make a comment on how Kirk dropped the ball on facilities, go for it, but this really is a reach. i doesn't mean it is his philosophy, just means it was during that really rough stretch.

even if you hate Kirk, you should read the article. well written, and sometimes is good medicine to read something with a different take. if all you read is stuff that affirms your viewpoint, you become like the radical politics freaks we have in this country.

OOTH I know how you feel. I have these same back and forths with several coworkers who get po'd at me and tell I'm not a real fan if I rail against Ferentz and the program. I ask how many coordinator changes or other excuses are you going to come up with before you start holding the CEO accountable? I get to games every year because I love the Hawks, but that doesn't mean I put on the black/gold sunglasses and drink the koolaid.
