my thoughts on iowa OKie st

Can't say i am surprised at the out come. I had stated earlier this week that outside of DSJ OSU could and would sweep Iowa after 141 due to the lack of fire that iowa has been showing. I was surprised at Evans match, that was one that i thought we would steal. Brands and Co. have to find a way to light the fire under the top half of our squad or the next few weeks are going to stuggles as well. I have the faith they will get it done. Go Hawks!!

Agree. Very disappointed in lack of progress the majority of this team has made since last year. Has to be extremely frustrating for Coach Brands right now. Hopefully they can turn it around prior to the Big Tourney.

Ok St has always been a tough match up dual wise. I see them fading in March as usual, as other than Oliver, who is their sure-fire stud? Sure Perry is number 1, but we're close. Caldwell seems to be regressing as of late, and you can always count on a late season injury to Z.

I still see this as a 3 team race with PSU far ahead and Iowa/Minny fighting for second.

Bout Results
125: No. 1 Matt McDonough (Iowa) dec. Eddie Klimara (OSU); 10-4
133: No. 2 Tony Ramos (Iowa) dec. No. 5 Jon Morrison (OSU); 3-2
141: No. 10 Mark Ballweg (Iowa) dec. Julian Feikert (OSU); 8-3
149: No. 1 Jordan Oliver (OSU) dec. Michael Kelly (Iowa); 10-4
157: No. 1 Derek St. John (Iowa) dec. No. 9 Alex Dieringer (OSU); 8-4
165: No. 3 Tyler Caldwell (OSU) dec. No. 18 Nick Moore (Iowa); 3-2
174: No. 1 Chris Perry (OSU) dec. No. 4 Mike Evans (Iowa); 4-3
184: No. 15 Chris Chionuma (OSU) dec. No. 10 Ethen Lofthouse (Iowa); 3-2
197: Blake Rosholt (OSU) dec. Nathan Burak (Iowa); 3-2
285: No. 3 Alan Gelogaev (OSU) dec. No. 7 Bobby Telford (Iowa); 7-3

There were a few bright moments on Sunday...........I have nothing but positive things to say about Kelly, Moore, Evans, and Burak. There were a couple of disappointments, but overall as a team, I'd say we already look better then at the start of the season. The two meets in Michigan will tell a lot.

We have got to find some aggression.

Jordan Oliver, Tyler Caldwell,Chris Perry, and Alan Gelogaev could all take top honors at their weights without surprising anyone. Rosholt and Morrison will AA, if Rosholt can get on track. OkSt has a good chance to compete for a crown with just that, and should at least be top 3.

Every single person in the wrestling world outside of Tyler Caldwell's parents would be surprised if he wins it at 165. but i agree w/ you, OSU should be in the title hunt just as much as Iowa

I give Caldwell 0% chance of winning the NCAA title. Just an FYI he was destroyed by Taylor just 2 weeks ago.

dual team or tournament team??

i think this is a great team we are just waiting for them to peak

This is exactly right, Pin. Brand's goal isn't to prepare them for dual meets, it's to prepare them for Nationals. He'll run them into the ground during the season just to get them ready.

We lost 4 matches in a row by one point. Yes, we are mentally weak... but we're not exactly light years from being good.
You turn 2 out of 4 of those around and win by major where you should - McDonough, Ballweg - and you beat Okie St pretty badly.
This team has lots of talent - it just needs to figure out how to wrestle smart and wrestle for all 7 minutes.
What's frustrating is that we haven't been able to get them to do that going on 2+ years now (as a whole.)

I agree with you 100%. Wasn't it the week prior or over the holiday where Brands had the team doing two-a-days in order to get them in shape?
We need the upper weights, especially Telford, to get it done from this point forward.

I was really hoping that Gambrall would push Lofthouse in the room. Is Lofthouse that much better than Gambrall? Don't get me wrong, I can't stand watching Gambrall wrestle, but I was really hoping he'd help improve Lofthouse by making him a little uncomfortable by possibly losing his spot.

Any thoughts?

I have no doubt he does in the room. From everything I've heard and read we have a bunch of practice room warriors but pee down our leg under the lights.
