my reason for breaking up the classes

it is you that twist things to suit your point, all 4 were given their release Larson and Brust left. McCabe and Marble recommitted to Fran, why is it so hard to understand. other than to make a arguement out of something so simple with me.

I am starting to see why you and Ghost get along so well. :D

McCabe and Marble never asked for or given a release from their scholarship, Brust and Larson did. The only one twisting anything to fit their point is you, McCabe and Marble were Lick recruits.

All 4 were not released from their scholarships.

sorry for the fail on critizing me but it is the coach that signs any release for a player that has signed their LOI, NOT the University

Again, you are wrong. A recruit signs with a program & not the coach. Officially, Iowa released Brust & Larson. Sure, Fran had a say in the matter but Barta signed the release.

Imagine if you will... Fran had his way...

J Cole would have gotten another year eligibility, stayed healthy, improved his numbers from last year and provided some additional big time leadership for the Hawkeyes. (NCAA sucks for screwing kids like Jaryd and not allowing a fifth year)

This year means 2 to 4 more plus wins and Brommer can red-shirt for another year.

Iowa either gets in the NCAA's and wins 1 or 2 or makes a big run in the NIT to New York City.

Next year with May and Brommer as Seniors, the Hawkeyes win more games and do better despite 5 in-coming freshman,

No one cares about "lop-sided" classes... everything works out and Fran goes to signing 2 to 4 kids per years.

Hey it can still happen... let's see what happens.

ok so tell me who of the top 10 will lose minutes to this 6th man you say we need so desperately need to get to the next level, and by saying we need that 6th man it is you that has no faith in Fran getting the job done

Herby, it might be easier for you to tell us which players are "locks" to be solid big ten contributors. Based on what I have seen so far, I would say White and Marble are the only 2 of 10 you reference that have a solid resume. Basabe, McCabe, Oglesby, Olaseni and May (unless they improve dramatically) are not big ten starters IMO and the other 5 are incoming freshman. Injuries, academics, off the court issues are always in the mix and I am sick of having limited depth and athleticism.

So you are saying that if Coach X gets canned after the tournament and a recruit wants to explore their options and suddenly Iowa is appealing because of McCaffrey or the incoming class, we should say "no" simply to protect a spot for next year?

Question: why should Cole have got a fifth year?

i have never been a Lick or Alford supporter. what i am is a supporter of the team and players, whatever it takes short of cheating i support, and i beleive buildin for the future is the right way, if you like the quick fix go follow Fred at ISU, with all his transferrs
in 3 recruiting classes Fran has replaced all but 1 from the Lick years, and he graduates next season

Fred is crazy. It will never work.

The more people in the mix for playing time the better. Maybe a kid will surprise and be a complete stud or maybe a kid will surprise and be a complete bust. Let it shake out. It's not throwing a particular kid under the bus. It's survival of the fittest.

The one additional player that Fran takes in could be the "stud" of the group for all anyone knows.

You got that RIGHT... mister.

the idea of Olaseni rs is a good one but that would make the incoming class a 6 or 7 man class, again relying on 2 freshmen bigs in the middle, which defeats the immediate improvement people demand.
in peoples mind we should be a 30 win team and a final 4 participant now,
its just not going to happen, even with another player will that happen not even a one and done will make it happen.
i am content with winning now AND building for the future success AND continued success, if it means taking another year to get the team built to where we can look at consistant top 5 in Conference and a sweet 16 each year i can wait, no need to sell out for a 1 year chance at a NT
and its not like this season was a failure, they are on the verge of winning 17 games and having a 9-9 conference record, that's a damn fine improvement over the last 6 years

gawd dawmn bodyslamming herby! you go man!

i posted my thought on how i would like to see the classes broken up, does Fran listen to me or anyother poster looking to start a arguement with me. no he does not. but i do have a lot of faith in him to use the schollies AND players to the best advantage of the TEAM.
as for Alford all i do is point out were his flaws to prove he was not as bad as people claim he was, and most made up excuses to hate him, even sinking to hate his hair. now how stupid and lame is that?
hate clouds the pictures

herby bodyslamming the hair! i love it! seriously guys you learn something from herby.

The OP's assumption is that nobody will ever transfer and they will all develop at the same rate. Balancing classes is totally overrated.

Freshman year he blew his knee out in early January. He then needed another year to re-hab and wasn't really healthy for the next 18 months.

NCAA medical red-shirt rules suck.

Cole was not eligible for a "medical hardship" waiver for his freshman year. He played in over thirty-percent of Iowa's scheduled games.

Plus, after his freshman year, Cole played in at least thirty games every year. When did this year rehab occur?

Typical, someone who doesn't know the rules criticizing the NCAA.

i preface this by saying i extremely dislike coach calipari at kentucky because he is the only coach to ever have banners taken away at 2 universities for basically cheating.

does kentucky care about unbalanced recruiting classes because they bring in like 7 or 8 frosh a yr. obviously it is because a few graduate and many go pro but balance in basketball classes just doesnt happen anymore because of early leaves and transfers. pie in the sky. you fill your roster with the best players you can get frosh or otherwise. redshirting isnt anything that is or really should be used in todays college bball unless for injury. most kids that get redshirted are projects if not injuries and if they dont pan out (most of them) they get recruited over.

i believe in allegiance to players that put in their due but if you can bring in a 6th scholly this yr and the guy can compete for a spot you do it. this aint moneyball where you trade away your guys when the season is bad and stack the deck for the next season. you win now or you get fired...just ask todd lickliter.

i guess i am not entitled to a opinion and get railed on for posting one, i even titled the thread "MY" reason for breaking them up, i guess this is a board of single minded people and if a poster does not follow their thought process and dares state such. they are crucified has being non-hawk fans and a hater of Iowa, who dares question anything

they only care about how impressive they are in message board, youre my boy!
