My Last Futile Attempt to Predict 2013 B1G Hoops Bracket

true, but I am not going to lose sleep if our quarterfinal round matchup is Michigan or Ohio State---hawks will beat either one. I want Michigan!

You sir, I believe are nuts. :D I just don't like the Michigan matchup, given the way they destroyed us in Ann Arbor, but maybe the Hawks would have a much better showing against them the 2nd time around. That said, OSU seems to be peaking a little bit since they just won @IU (or is IU slipping a bit?), so I'm not crazy about that matchup, either.

Either way I guess, Iowa will have a tough Friday game, provided they get that far.

Since Wisconsin lost last night, it's looking more and more like our Friday opponent would be either MSU, Michigan, or OSU, correct?

It sounds like Wisconsin could potentially still be our opponent given they lost last night, but also that more things have to break our way at this point now for that to happen.

I think OSU beats ILL unless Illini go off from three. That's the toughest reach for me in the Wisky gets the three scenario

I don't think Illinois beating OSU is that far fetched. It's a good match up for Illinois.

Plus, it's not like they went crazy at their place on threes. They hit 8-27, which is actually below average for them. Free throws were even for both teams. But I think Illinois' athleticism bothered them and Illinois beat them on the boards by 10+.

They're both playing well over their last several games.....Illinois is 6-2 in their last 8 and OSU is 5-3....with both holding wins over IU during that stretch as well. I know Illinois looked terrible against us, but I think the match up against OSU is actually better for them than their match up against us.

Should be a fun game to watch.

Illinois is capable of pulling off the upset, they have wins on the road against Gonzaga and Minnesota. But they will have to go nuts from the 3 point line in order to do it at Ohio State. Ohio State is extremely tough to beat on their court only Indiana and Kansas have done it this season.

Ohio State has won 5 in a row including the win at Indiana. It is also Senior Day. I'm not giving Illinois much of a chance in this one.

BTT - Indiana has wrapped up the 1 seed and we shouldn't see them until the finals. I have always felt that the winning teams from Thursday have an advantage on Friday in the BTT. They have played and won a game. They have gotten past the nerves. This of course assumes there is not an enormous talent gap...won't be the case for Iowa, Illinois or Minnesota. I won't be at all surprised if any of the 3 winners from this group turn around and win on Friday. I think the advantage on Saturday then shifts. A team playing their 3rd game against a team playing their 2nd game is now at a disadvantage IMO.

But the funny thing is if Minnesota and Illinois end up as the 8/9 seed Indiana may have the toughest matchup in the second round. The best seed to have might be the #2 seed as they could end up with the winner of Purdue/Nebraska.

Perfect. I don't want to face Indiana in the final so let's get rid of them early.

Like I said before, IU beats Mich, PU beats Minn, we'll play MSU

I got ...
1 Indy 14-4
2 OSU 13-5
3 MSU 13-5
4 Wisc 12-6
5 Mich 12-6
6 Iowa 9-9
7 Purd 8-10
8 Illini 8-10
9 Minn 8-10
10 Neb 5-13
11 NW 4-14
12 PSU 2-16

5 Mich vs 12 PSU ... Michigan (close)
6 Iowa vs 11 NW ... Iowa (not close)
7 Purd vs 10 Neb ... Purdue
8 Illini vs 9 Minn ... pick'em (BTW, this should be an NCAA elimination game, ugh)

1 Indy vs 8/9 IL/MN ... Indiana (close)
2 OSU vs 7 Purd ... Ohio State (Luckeyes get nice draw here)
3 MSU vs 6 Iowa ... it's gonna be tough to beat Izzo
4 Wisc vs 5 Mich ... Michigan

1 Indy vs 5 Mich ... Indiana (again)
2 OSU vs 3/6 MSU/IA ... MSU/Iowa (but if we can beat Izzo, I like this draw)

1 Indy vs 3/6 MSU/IA ... Indiana (too much)

Some teams just match up well against other teams. Illinois this year matches up pretty well with OSU. They only shot 8-27 (29.6%) at home against OSU and still beat them by nearly 20. I think Paul and Richardson just present match up problems for OSUs guards for whatever reason. I think Illinois pulls it out without going nuts from 3.

Out of the top 4 the two I least want to see are MSU and IU.

Michigan is overrated by Iowa fans because of that game in which Iowa quit. People on here were saying they could win the D league. In reality they are probably the third best team in the big ten and have been playing allot of close games lately.

Nobody in the country wants to see Izzo this time of year, period, and while I wouldn't be scared of a matchup with IU they played well below what they are capable of both times and still beat Iowa twice although Iowa played well below what they are capable of as well. OSU plays ridiculously good defense on top of Craft being allowed 15 fouls a game.

Any of the top 4 are going to be tough and I don't see Mighican as any tougher than the other 3.

The best case scenario by a mile is obviously Wisconsin.

I don't think Michigan beats Indiana. I think OSU loses to Illinois as a hangover from their big win against Indiana. I think Purdue beats a reeling Minnesota. I think MSU hold serve at home against Wisconsin.

In that scenario, Indiana wins the B1G outright at 14-4 and MSU finishes in 2nd all alone at 13-5. Wisky, Mich and OSU tie for 3rd at 12-6, but by virtue of the tie breaker, Wisky gets the #3 seed. Assuming Iowa beats Nebraska, that would give Iowa a 2nd round matchup (assuming they get by NW) against Wisky.

We all need to hope for this to play out!

PU beats Minny....so far so good!
