I dont buy food addiction. How can your body get addicted to something it needs burn as fuel? Take responsibility for yourself. Eat less, excercise more, be healthier.
The problem with addictive behaviors is that there is a difference between careless abuse and addiction. This is why you drank as much as the other guy in your frat and you stopped or moderated after you graduated and he died on skid row, or had to join AA.
Same goes for food. Young men can eat a boat load of food, because they burn it up. When they are through developing, they start putting on weight. Some people decide they want to keep on eating and don't mind putting on the weight. Some moderate their diet to reduce overall calories. Some eat themselves to death and find that even though they want to moderate they cannot by just trying to watch their calories.
They alcoholic and the food addict are different than just the heavy drinker or jolly fat guy. They have specific problematic brain functions related to seratonin, dopamine, and GABA. For alcoholics, they can be born with this issue, or damage their brains through excessive drinking to create the problem. But once the problem is there it is there forever. I am not sure if you can cause the same problems with sugar and carbohydrates, but they have found the same issues in food addicts.
The 12 step model has functions in the system that help stimulate seratonin and dopamine reception, such as extensive self-disclosure (think of the high you get when you first meet someone you are attracted to and you have that first great talk), group interaction, altruism, and reduction of negative feelings through positive actions. These mimic the high people get from drugs, alcohol, or foods without the negative impacts.
Actually, with respect to self-disclosure, research has found self-disclosure on FB provides a similar high.
It is a very significant problem when people who have no scientific understanding of addictive behaviors base claims on limited anecdotal evidence because they may be confusing experience of limited excessive use with actual addiction.
