His later releases are kind of spotty. Some really good stuff along with way too many sloppy takes and undeveloped ideas. His spontaneity can produce excellent material. However it's just about as likely to crash and burn. Sometimes he manages to do both.

oh yeah, but that's his charm in some cases. The Replacements were a huge influence on me and I love his material in the 90's around the Singles soundtrack.

Later on he was a lot more eclectic than than many of his replacements fans wanted him to be.
