years ago when those little people came into my life, i slowly saw my stereo gear getting destroyed. I didn't think i'd ever find a replacement for my cartridge for my Yamaha turn table. I had not use anymore for my amp/tuner and I kept my little polk audio speakers.

So now its my phone and headphones. https://a.co/d/eQGYeRp

Still nothing quite measures up to a new vinyl record with headphones. Dark Side of the moon and a few other particular songs were great for just listening to great sound.

Started to look into getting back into vinyl a few years ago, and still might if I can figure out where to set up the equipment in our new house.

What struck me in the process of looking is that "audiophile vinyl enthusiasts" has become basically a cult. We are talking about people that are completely obsessive to the point of being borderline unhinged. Some will pay ungodly amounts for a system. No hyperbole - you literally can fork over 500 grand for a system. It's unreal.

As much as I'm tempted to go that route, I'm thinking of focusing on a potential digital high res audio system. Files have come a long way in terms of quality, and I'm getting too old and lazy to get up and continually change the albums.

On a side note, the perfect headphone track is Nazareth's "Please Don't Judas Me."

$400.000 amplifier for "normal" human beings...

Then there's this for the Elon Musks and Jeff Bezos' of the world. Only about $2,000,000:

Pretty amaizin. whish someone narrated to explain what I'm looking at...and which they had different music playing. HA!

Marshal Tucker Band live

David Palmer frequently sang lead for live SD shows...Fagen had serious stage fright early on.

Denny Dias could play guitar in his sleep it seems.

Long before MTV, streaming, the internet, etc., the Midnight Special was the only affordable way I could see bands live.

I crossed SD off my "must see" bucket list in the Quad Cities in 2019.

Of course, I'll be warming up with this dude on Saturday at the Rhythm City casino.

Who do ya love!?

Hope you can get a refund or find someone to buy these tix. I like me some GT&D, but holy balls is he terrible live. Saw him with my old man back in the 90s and it was absolutely great, made the huge mistake of going in 2019 and it's easily in my top 3 worst performances ever. The dude's a shell unfortunately...trying to hang on waaaaay too long. It was pretty sad to watch, he screwed up half his lyrics and just stood there with his mouth hanging open out of breath half the time. It wasn't 2023 Motley Crue bad, but it was pretty bad. The only thing I've ever seen worse in person was Chuck Berry in '06 at SITP in Sioux City.

We'll soon see. I've actually talked with people who've seen him (relatively recently) live in both an arena-type environment and a smaller venue (like where we'll be). They said he sucked in the arena but kicked ass in the smaller venue.

My four worse concerts (out of the #58 I've attended):

Boston at the Iowa Fieldhouse. Terrible acoustics. 1980
Eddie Money (2nd time around in Davenport). Lurched around. Not in good health. Rhythm City Casino.
.38 Special at the Rhythm City Casino. So LOUD I honestly didn't know what song was playing. Awful.

And by far, #1 idiot, was John Mellencamp at the Mississippi Valley Fair in Davenport.
Packed house, lots of energy and anticipation.
Showed up 45 minutes late, had his opening act play for over an hour, then played "new"
stuff out of the gate. Didn't engage the crowd at all. I actually left, as did a whole lot of others. The music coordinator got on TV, apologized and stated JM would never be back.

Mellencamp is already notorious for being a complete (hate to say it...) prick.

It's ironic you brought him up. I just saw a clip of him yesterday walking out of a concert after being heckled by a fan. He apparently was telling a prolonged story and some fan got annoyed and starting yelling at him to actually perform. Mellencamp got into a back and forth with him, then took off his guitar and walked away.

GT&D was/were actually pretty decent.
You got what you paid for: raw, in your face rock. Zero ballads.
We were row six, booming sound system galore.

Unique to see this band still playing together 50 years later, and bringing a good show.
The sax is 2nd to none. Leach took up the mantle for Carter very well.
