Music City Bowl tickets: starting at $6 on StubHub

Didnt the Panthers player get a two game suspension? And without pay. The only thing that affects a pro doing illegal hits or anything else is loss of playing time and their money. The fines and suspensions need to get harsher so that players start hitting below the shoulders. There are enough very hard hits that are accidental to not want these targeting calls.

College ball is keeping track of how many personal fouls and targeting certain players get called for. Of course they lose more that one half of a game getting kicked out for targeting and if they repeat it too often they will lose more time.

It was reduced to one game.

Hey Gold you disappoint me. Seems you forgot to lecture us all about how Soccer is gonna take over the US soon.

Sorry man, but I give this a D grade as far as @HawkGold I know more than everyone else lecture.

You've never heard me say soccer will take over. You've heard me say I like it and have coached it. You've heard me say it's exciting. Ask me about ag econ or Ww2 and I probably do know more. Football...never coached it. Basketball I have. Swear at me or imply Im stupid (though you might be right about that one) and you'll grget a rigourous response.

Am am pretty darrn good at taking good at taking under talented teams and winning big games.

Therein lies our disagreement. You are apologetic about kf. I really struggle watching teams not going rise up snd slay the giant but take a victim attitude. Thats How I see KF. I see FM as being a terrible coach on fundamentals.

You are the Ferentz apologist, not me. I have called for his firing on this site, you have not.

Times have changed. The experience of watching games at home have surpassed watching them in person. Just wait until 5 years from now when we're all wearing VR headsets in our living rooms and actually down on the field watching the game unfold right in front of us. Believe me, its coming.

Virtual reality has been promised for years.....so when is it going to happen? I am still waiting to get that hologram of some hot pornstar.:)

Did the Music City Bowl even have a choice between Northwestern or Iowa? If they did then Iowa would have been the easy choice. But with the Big Ten bowl structure set up the way it is I don't think Northwestern was eligible for the Pinstripe Bowl since they played there last year. I don't think the Purdue game would have made a difference. Even the Outback Bowl couldn't have selected Iowa since Iowa had played there last year, not that they would pick us over Michigan.

I don’t really care what Clown fan like you believes. When are you heading to that dump called Memphis anyway?

I think you will find that in general that interest in football is down and not just NFL. It's a variety of reasons.

Iowa is not the only program frustrated with it's coach and it's not just about winning/losing. The cat is out of the bag and it's not going back in.

Football will be drastically different in 10 years. We have reached Peak Football and now starting to decline.

I could list 10 reasons, most completely unrelated to KF. Anyone who watched the Adams hits and the NFL response to the 2nd is frankly getting sick of it. Kinnick is a terrific venue. The Hawk football interest will decline gradually and sped up as a portion of the fan base gets tired of the fat cat at the helm. Explain away all you want about being young and we're only Iowa, but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to know how to play Iowa. Apparently OSU's coach isn't very smart though or completely arrogant.

Good guys don't put the thumb to their fan base.

Finishing my rant, Duke set basketball back last night, keeping in starters (one how almost got hurt), to a 40 point halftime lead and a 60 plus point win. What was the point? MK never once smiled or looked like he was having fun. The huge Evansville coach seemed totally out of touch like he was disassociated with ptsd. Iowa would probably struggle with Evansville.

There is just a huge disconnect period with sports and politics.

I watched the game off and only to watch the psychology unfolding.

Evansville didn't quit. They just absolutely could not get any traction inside. If Iowa were to make the dance, they'd run into something like that.

Iowa fans aren't going anywhere. They've been filling that stadium even in the 60's and 70's during the horrible years. If Iowa is even having a mediocre .500 season, fans will go.

That is a part of what brought Hayden to Iowa. He and Bill Brashier are from the same Texas town. Hayden was interested and saw Iowa play during the losing seasons. Hayden said to Bill, "Did you see the number of fans in that stadium, you have to wonder what it would be like if they were to win!". -- Paraphrase.

Here found the factual info:

In 1979, Hayden Fry was offered the head coach positions at Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, and Iowa. He asked his staff, including Brashier, where they should go.

"I told my assistants to make up their mind where we're going," Fry said. "Coach (Bill) Brashier said we're going to Iowa. I said Iowa? I don't even know where Iowa's located.

"He said look at this film -every time Iowa made a first down, the whole crowd erupted. I got to thinkin', my gosh, what would happen if we ever scored a touchdown."

Brashier tells the story a bit differently -- he focused on how many people were at a game that the Hawkeyes lost by 40 and imagined what would happen if they could win there -- but regardless of the rationale, it was Brashier who convinced Fry to come to Iowa. The rest has been history.

And what is your position on K F now?

I'm not gonna be calling for a guys head who has won 12, 8 and 7/8 games in the last 3 years.

I can't believe what schools are doing now, and the buyouts they are paying to get rid of guys, it is insane. Todd Graham getting fired for Edwards? I mean serious, WTF is that? Does anyone actually think Edwards is gonna take ASU to places that Graham couldn't?

If Iowa starts cycling through coaches because they fire them for 8 wins seasons it would be a disaster. If that is the standard Fry would have been fired after the '89 season. I mean Fry won 10 games in '87, then he won 6 games in '88 and 5 games in '89, should he have been fired? That seems to be what some want to do here with Ferentz. I mean win 12 games, 8 games and lets say we win 7 games, this is now fireable at Iowa?

Agreed that it’s Iowa’s fault, but the Music City Bowl was still stupid for picking a team with a tiny fan base that doesn’t travel.
Pinstripe Bowl is having the same thoughts about selecting a team with a fan base that doesn't travel.
