The bowl travel experience isn't as "sexy" as it used to be, for most schools.
Look at these examples of B1G schools are the secondary market price for game tickets.
On StubHub, the Cotton Bowl (USC vs Ohio State) tickets start at $55 (plus fees).
Pac12 schools are well known for not travelling, and Buckeye fans have expectation of "CFP or bust."
Orange Bowl (Connie vs Miami) tickets are starting at $75 (plus fees).
Fiesta Bowl (PSU vs Washington) tickets are starting at $60 (plus fees).
Next bowl tier:
Outback (Michigan vs South Carolina) = $65 (plus fees)
Holiday (Sparty vs Wazzu) = $29 (plus fees)
The Pinstripe Bowl is $89 (plus fees), but that's asking and the StubHub marketplace is non-existant, because you can still buy thousands of tickets on Ticketmaster, starting at $55 (plus fees).
The market is no longer willing to spend thousands of dollars (tickets, transportation, hotel, etc.) in annual bowl trips.
The exception being the Outback Bowl and Iowa.
What's not to like about Tampa/St.Pete and New Year's Eve in Ybor City?!
The UIowa is out of sync with the market, charging $110 for bowl tickets in the end zone and third level.
The ticket office needs to talk to someone from Pappajohn on the free market and setting a market price.
College football will be fine, because of the millions/billions collection in TV rights.
The bowls, itself, and their respective Chamber of Commerce, may need to do some reassessing.
