Most Disappointing Iowa Team Ever?

Given the sheer ineptitude of this team, I'm going to give this a bump. Most disappointing or the worst team in Iowa basketball history?

I don't understand the "give him another year" idea. Fran had an above average team last year. He brought in two good freshman. The team looks terrible. Terrible. What makes you think he will learn to coach the fundamentals of basketball next year? What makes you think he will have an epiphany and decide, "oh my god, I am missing point guards on the team, I forgot to recruit those." I don't doubt we will lose several players to transfer. We may actually retain more players with a different coach then keep Fran. 8 years. He has had 8 years to build a competitive team. If this was year 4 I'd say, ya, he needs another year lets see what happens. BUT 8?

For me, this is without a doubt the most disappointing Hawkeye team ever. After last year's team and only losing Peter Jok, I just assumed they could keep the momentum going.

I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I predicted this team at 23-8 and a NCAA 5 seed. Now that is some big time disappointment.
I can't remember what I'd predicted but it was pretty close to that record wise. I had em over 20 wins. Maybe not that high of a seed in tourney but I certainly thought they'd be in it. It's one thing to be in tourney and not go as far as you'd hoped. It's another thing to think we have a team good enough to not only not get in but instead they are the doormat of the BIG.... Big time disappointed here too..

Given all of the hype by the Iowa media experts for this team and the on court results, the question must be asked -- is this the most disappointing Iowa basketball season of all time?

I am assuming the results aren't going to get any better by the looks of what we've seen.

I thought this team would be fringe NCAA team so yeah its pretty disappointing that they're fighting for a last place finish in the B1G but they're not on the level of most disappointing. For me those are:

2001-2002: Its been mentioned in this thread, no need to rehash the info

1987-1988: This team made it to the Sweet 16 but they had way too much talent to be a 10 loss, 3rd place finish team. They beat eventual NC Kansas by 20. I remember this as one of Davis worst defensive teams. They always seemed to give up a shit ton of points. One game in particular is burned into my memory. They scored 103 at Michigan but still lost by 17. In their 3 NCAA tournament games that year, the gave up 98, 86, & 99 points. They were damn lucky to make it out of round one.

1998-1989: Again a very talented team (not as talented as the previous season) that lost 10 games and finished 4th in the conference. Had Indiana not sat out their best players in the season finale that Iowa won, they would have finished 9-9 in the conference.
