More Kinnick renovations - North Endzone

Very interesting, I have been thinking about that endzone for a while. That is a big list of improvements for sure, and there is not a lot of room. They can't really expand backwards because of the bus terminal. I was thinking that it could possibly be made into double decker seating to fit all those things in. Or elevated seats above the plaza and patio.

From an engineering perspective, expansion of the north end zone does not seem like a major obstacle. They could go up and over Stadium Drive or just close that street down as it's lightly traveled anyway.

I thought it was interesting, 35-45 milliion for North Endzone improvements, $85 million for a dorm (for athletes?). I know they were planning another dorm in addition to the one that is just opening, but is this in addition to another one, or is this it?

That is Evashevski Drive now, and the newly constructed west campus transportation center is directly on the other side. So closing the road could not be done. However building above it could be.

I would have to check the elevation, but for the bus traffic they would probably want about 14 feet. This would be easy to achieve with an upper deck. The upper deck would mean that there could still be a lot of low price seats in addition to the luxury features below.

I guess they had to come up with another way to generate revenue. If there is going to be a decline in attendance, then might as well lose some seats and create more expensive seating for the gray hairs who donate and can afford it. It sounds to be a shift and a different revenue avenue.

Go back to the June article about declining season ticket sales - last paragraph - "still a waiting list for indoor/outdoor club seats and suites"... this is the future of big-time college and NFL stadiums - all entities will cater to the 1%, 5% or whatever you want to call them... they exist, have the $$'s and are willing/able to spend for entertainment. Sustainability = "follow the money"

hopefully that will look good above the ribbon board. Unless I am not understanding how they would do it. They need to add one more item to the additions while they are at it. Paint a tiger hawk on the water tower.

Petersen Hall opens near Hillcrest this Fall with 501 beds. The Madison Street facility is in early construction and slated to open in Fall 2017, with roughly 1000 beds. But Quad is finally closing and losing 360 beds in the process.

UI is under directive from the Regents to increase their freshman class by 500 students per year for 5 years, as part of the Regents' plan to educate more Iowans. The documents filed in this proposal point out that housing has to turn down student applicants every year.

The dorm proposal here is for all students, not just athletes. NCAA rules disallow an athlete dorm.

Ding ding ding. Hopefully GarBar budgeted for this in that estimate.

I think they need to lay a big Tigerhawk in the middle of the field facing the press box so it is prominently displayed during televised games. The Tigerhawk already appears in each end zone, but every other B1G school has their logo in the middle of field except Iowa (and Penn State & Purdue which don't have a logo on their field at all).

I just saw another part of the proposal is for a new indoor track facility. I wonder if this sets in motion the demolition of the Rec Building for the football complex expansion.

Probably wipe out the old football building and the rec center...and rebuild on that spot.

OR...how bout more quality parking! Could use more for gameday, basketball and the hospital.

That was my point. Plus, it can always help recruiting a bit more because they look pretty impressive.
