More Clues as to why Hubbard Left?

Maybe he was mistreated by some people in IC and didn't feel comfortable anymore. He wanted to leave and Iowa doesn't want it known that he was mistreated. I'm not saying this happened, by any means, but it would explain Iowa releasing him unconditionally. File this under random brainstorming guess.

I think the easiest answer is the simplest.

The guy is not going to be an NBA player. He may not even be an NBA talent, but add to that the fact he would be a 28 year old rookie and, you suddenly have a guy who is playing for fun.

Is it fun to have the pressure of being a guy an entire fan base is looking at to resurrect the program?

Is it fun to spend the two years you have rebuilding?

This guys motivations are different. I don't buy Nebraska, and I would bet that he doesn't wind up at a major D-1 program.

In a sign of the apocalypse, I agree with Husky and Scoop.

He left. He had a change of heart. We don't need to know any more than we know.

I -- perhaps -- can connect. After a week, I left one team and one campus and enrolled late at Iowa. I wasn't D1 quality, so I never explored my sport at UI. Hubbard is a D1 ballplayer, but perhaps just like I didn't feel a town in Ohio in my heart, Hub didn't feel Iowa City in his.

Best of luck to the dude. I hope he finds the right college opportunity and is able to make the full life-turnaround that he's expressed he wants to make.

OK, what is it with Nebraska? Of course I don't follow so don't know much about their b-ball program. In the past it seems they were never a juggarnot, if you will. Do they have a better chance of making the NCAA? How is the health of their current program at this time? It just seems like a lateral move at this time, both b-ball program & midwest lifestyle. I don't get bolting for Lincoln if that indeed ends up happening.

Why is it so hard for you guys to accept the statement released is the truth.

Hubbard never really meshed with his roommate(s), his teamates, or felt comfortable in IC. He decides he wants to leave and does so while his coach is out of town (its easier that way).

Some of you guys trying to invent grade issues, legal issues, drug issues are hysterical.
Exactly what statement would that be? That he wants to play closer to home and talk to his JC coach, or that he wants to play at Nebraska. Why don't we ask him. Oh, that's right, he is incommunicado. It is kind of a big deal to anyone who is interested in Iowa basketball.

I just am not buying that at present, because of this line from Iowa Athletics Director Gary Barta from the press release I linked above: “I am disappointed for Fran, our staff and the other staff on our campus that were involved from the start on what was clearly a very unique recruiting process. It’s unfortunate it hasn’t worked out as we had hoped. We, of course, wish Anthony the very best.â€￾

If Hubbard had done anything shady, why would Barta wish him 'the very best'?
I'm sorry Jon, but lmao.

This whole thing stems from a ton of bad choices.

Fran/Barta made bad choices giving the kid a chance.

Hubbard either made bad choices that forced him to leave, or made a bad choice by leaving for no good reason.

But really, the reason we're in this mess is because the Iowa basketball program has been making bad choices for several years. The root cause of this whole thing goes back to the firing of Tom Davis.

If he indeed ends up at Nebraska I'd say someone from there put a bug in his ear that Nebraska was close to making the big dance last year and if he came to Nebby then he would put them over the top while Iowa was terrible last year and has no chance to make the NCAAs even with him. He knows he only has two years to make it so perhaps that played a part.

Let's see, classes start in approximately 37 days at most universities. Hubbard better get a move on if he intends to attend school this semester, whether or not he plays basketball. Too bad he blew an education at the University of Iowa. He IS the one who left whether voluntarily or not. The clock is ticking for the lad.

Yes, becasue all of that was super secret info that wasn't available during his initial recruiting process.

Hub posted this on his FB page on Saturday...

"Grandma I love you and pray that you will see better days in the following days to come. I ask that anyone who prays to send a prayer in my Grandma's behalf. The more prayers the better.... Thank you"

Maybe it was family-related.

Here's the most logical answer to that hypothetical question: he wouldn't have said that.

In my opinion, Barta's statement neither clears Hubbard of nefarious activity nor suggests there was some. I think he might use those very same words if Anthony had run afoul of some of the restrictions that might have been imposed on him or had had issues with the summer classes he had taken. I am sure the university took extraordinary care in what it said to protect itself legally and also to try to put a positive face on a disappointing, somewhat embarrassing episode.

I'm more curious about these words from Barta: "It’s unfortunate it hasn’t worked out as we had hoped." That could cover a whole range of actions, from the simple fact of Anthony deciding to leave after the staff went to so much work to recruit him and get him enrolled, to something much deeper.

Until Anthony decides to speak, I'm not sure we'll ever know why he bolted.

HawkIhoops mentioned Stokes who looked good in Sunday's game. I watched a clip of a previous game where he made a nice move to the basket, very athletic. For a brief second it looked like Melsohn. That would be a bonus if he could contribute this year.

Highly doubt any player mutiny led to his departure. For starter,s I think they all want to win and Hubbard could have helped the team. Secondly, competing for playing time against other players is the nature of the business. Either perform and earn your minutes or run the risk of losing PT to somebody else.

My guess would be there was something looming on the horizon that Hubbard anticipated being a problem and he bolted in order to be able to hit the reset button.
