MN: "one of the best-coached teams in the country."

Its one thing to use a lot of coach speak in the presser to praise his next opponent but Fitz takes it to a whole new level of absurd BS when talking about the worst team in the Big Ten:

Fitzgerald called Minnesota "one of the best-coached teams in the country."

He said the 1-3 Gophers, who will play host to Northwestern on Saturday for homecoming, are "two or three plays away" from being 4-0 like the Wildcats. (That's debatable, at best.)

He affectionately calls Brewster, the former Illinois tight end, "Brew" and "Timmy" and said that anyone can "pop in the tape" and see how good the Gophers really are.

"Schematically, they do an outstanding job in all three phases," he said. "They have great athletes all over the place. Timmy has recruited outstanding … this is the best team we will have played."

I sure its got to be hard to figure out what to say about a bad coach/team. You gotta wonder if Brewster is smart enough to know this is BS or is his head about to pop?

Are we sure these weren't 2 separate things and he was talking about the Twins? That I could buy.

Sometimes coachtalk is the most contrived BS out there. I would love to see it one day when coaches actually went out and said what they thought.

Or how about if the media just said, "Come on dude, that is so much crap I can't even right about it. If so and so is a great coach then why..?"

Rick Barnes said the same thing about Greg McDermott. I think the coaches have respect for each other but more than anything....know that they can chalk about a win every time they play a team coached by them

i'm not opposed to this statement- they could possibly be the best coached 1-3 team in the country. i'm not sold on the schematic comment though.

really there's obviously not a lot of positives to spew out for the goofers this season as of yet.

Fitz might have said those things, but what was he really thinking....? Huh?

"Minnesota is one of the teams that needs a new coach"

"Minnesota is 2 or 3 plays away from a safety at all times"

"pop in the tape and see how to lose at home to an FCS also ran"

"Schematically, they do an outstanding job of getting to the sidelines for medical attention".

"They have great atheletes... on the track team".

C'mon Fitzy these guys blow and you know it. The Gophers have quit on Brew.

While I agree with the OP on the absurdness of Fitz's comments, honestly, what should he say?

You just can't (or shouldn't) call out a coach or opponent because they suck. It does more long-term damage than short-term good.

Call him out? No - a coach should recite the usual coaching platitudes without insulting the intelligence of the college football world as Fitz did with these comments (and making himself look like an idiot). You'd never see Ferentz saying this stuff.

Gable used to do that. I remember him talking about how the next opponent had some good wrestlers, some of the match-ups would be tough, but that as a team they just couldn't compete with Iowa, and this would be like the 3rd ranked team in the country. Then the Hawks would beat them 24-6. Never heard any other coach do anything like that, though.

Coach Speak is worse than political spin.

It's always why I like Bobby Knight in spite of his being Bobby Knight.

What's laughable is that Fitz said that the Gophers were just a few plays from being undefeated. That is a joke. The Gopher D is just plain bad and the Gopher O still has too many moments where it's inconsistent. You can't win games playing like that.

Quite frankly, if MTSU's starting QB hadn't been a stupid (and done something criminal that got him suspended for the Minny game) ... the Gophers would be winless.

YES, they are that bad!

They are just a few plays away from being undefeated. A few plays in each offensive and defensive series.

Had they not given up those touchdowns and not been forced to punt or otherwise turn over the ball, they would have never been scored upon and they would have put the Greatest Show on Turf to shame.

It's just logic, folks.
