Missing Link to Next Level

Nah, we gotta stick to our policy.
Might as well add another 80 yards rushing, 33 yards receiving and 3 more TDs to his totals listed above. that's his current stat line in the game vs Arizona. For anyone that hasn't seen him, he runs like Wadley. Damn!

Well, they get one more year of him. I imagine he'll be gone after next year barring a significant injury.

A game changing dynamic rb. I think we should honestly go for recruiting broke in the future and offer every 5* rb and say look, you are starting day 1 behind an NFL caliber OL every week in the big ten. You play starting tomorrow son.

There has to be 1-2 kids that would say ok if we put the hammer down in recruiting. Now, we will hear 99 no's, but i have to think sooner or later a few 4* at least will say im in.

THIS season....100% on Stanley. 100%. If he plays ANYTHING like a Stanzi, Tate, Vlassic, Rodgers....an all-big 10 qb...even 2nd team....we win 11 or 12 games this year. STANLEY STANLEY STANLEY.
Stanley has wilted under pressure, looking anxious and confused, with wild throws and turnovers, in the 3-4 big games Iowa played. But, Iowa has WRs that are, well, non functioning most of the time, seldom get open, and drop tons of balls. Thus, stack the box vs Iowa, make Stanley and the WRs fire away! Of course, Iowa decides on the off tackle option as the default play to confront this. It is almost beyond belief, watching how inept and unimaginative Iowa is under KirkBall. Skeerd...keep it close, punt.

OK, Iowa is going low to mid level bowling this year, no surprises there, although this season was the one where things were to "align", with the schedule, tight ends, defensive linemen, experienced QB, talent in DB, deep RBs, to make this one of those "one in a decade" Kirk seasons. Didn't happen of course.

If one could name the "missing link," as to why this is more of a standard Kirk Year, than a contract upgrade year, what would it be?

Little threat or production out of the wide receivers?

Lack of a dynamic and reliable running back?

A non-clutch, deer in the head lights, QB during the 3-4 big games of the year?

Poor coaching and preparation?

Inexperienced LBs?

Inexperienced OC?

Underused talent, Fant? Epenesa?

Bone headed calls and plays/mistakes during those big plays in big games that mattered most?

An offensive line that couldn't consistently keep the running game going?

There are probably multiple reasons of course, but my pick would be the lack of a dynamic and reliable RB that could be spelled with a somewhat reliable, yet average set of backups. This type of RB is the key to Kirk Ball, IMHO. Opinions?

I think you're on to it. Not sure if the injuries at Corner were game changers or not..apart from that they were healthy. Stanley makes me nervous, just looking at him.

All of those things spell 8-4. Not a single game that I'll be watching during the off season. Unlike the last 2 years. It was a warm bowl of oatmeal. I like oatmeal but it only has so much upside.

this is the first time in KF era they've won at least 8 games 4 years in a row.. 8 is the new 7

You just restated my point

People who say it can't be done don't have imagination/foresight

Barta is one of those people

Iowa has a 9-9 B1G record over the last two years.
Iowa is slightly better than .500 in the B10 over the Ferentz tenure.
Is this what we accept?

Flip through the pages and pages of people talking about how great this season was with signature wins over Minnesota and Indiana and you will have your answer. As long as we win one big game every 3 years, hawk fans will continue to bow at the feet of the Ferentz clan.

Most high school coaches could have coached Iowa to 6-6 this year, given the talent and schedule, perhaps 7-5. We got to 8-4.

So it comes down to all of the great natural athletes that we have winning in spite of coaching. The 10th or 11th in big ten recruiting classes. They just win the games on their natural skill-sets and in spite of coaching. Interesting.

Eno Benjamin was never going to be a Hawkeye. I dont care if he said he was, when others started showing interest, he became interested in looking, visiting. It was a matter of time regardless of our policy. He parked here, guaranteed his scholly, then shopped his services. He was never a Hawk. His stats mean nothing. You can pull up stats for LSU's roster if you want. We were as likely to have one of their RB'S. This guy wasnt going to play for us when other schools got interested.

Eno had a ton of interest and quite a few offers from P5 schools well before he committed to Iowa.

He committed, no reason to visit other schools. Dont commit then. So, he wasnt committed....in his mind. I still dont want him. He is an enemy at best. Irrelevant on a good day.
