Miller's Final Picks are Interesting

Jon Miller just posted his initial bowl picks. Included in the article are his predictions for final Big Ten records.

Here is what he predicted:

MSU 6 2
Mich 5 3
Ia 4 4
Neb 4 4

Why is this interesting? It is interesting because, based on these picks, Iowa v. Michigan State is for the championship. If Iowa could somehow win that game, which I believe it can do, I believe Iowa splits the last 2 road games, finishes 5-3 along with MSU and Mich, wins all the tiebreakers, and plays in the title game.

I really think this is possible in this crazy season.

He picked MSU to go 6-2 so I guess I don't understand what you are saying.

He is saying that it would only take a flip of one game outcome, the Iowa/MSU game this weekend, and if everything else goes as predicted in that article, then Iowa wins the division and plays for the B1G title.

Iowa can't split on the road to go to Title game if MSU only remaining loss is at Iowa. Miller it appears has MSU losing just one more time. MSU faces Iowa, Indiana and Northwestern. That Minnesota loss probably is a BACK BREAKER. :(

I'd love to see it but have to take it game by game, seriously, we could win all three or loose all threee, have to play every one like it is the last one

MSU still has to play at NW, and NW might be playing for a bowl game there.

Would not surprise me at all to see the Fightin Fitzs' pull that out.

Wouldn't surprise me at all either. They just beat Nebby on the road and we saw what they did to MSU. But Jon was saying MSU only loses once more which was my point. They would have to lose to us and NW.

My God, I swore I would not get involved in all the divisional tiebreakers and other crap, but so help me:

If Iowa beats MSU and Purdue, but loses at Nub, we will be 5-3. MSU would have to lose another game besides Iowa to lower their record to 5-3, giving Iowa the tiebreakers over all the other contenders (assuming final records from Jon's article).

If MSU only loses to Iowa, and no one else, then Iowa must run the table to win the division.

That is my take, anyway.

This is correct, which is why I say that loss at Minnesota was a backbreaker.

It doesn't have to be. Pretty simple formula really. Win your next 3 games and you are in. And who the heck knows, if they didn't stumble against Minny maybe they don't play inspired like they did Saturday and lose to Michigan.

He also does not have Purdue as one of his bowl eligible teams, so he must think we beat them on the road.

Curious.

Here is my gut feeling...we beat MSU in a toughly fought battle. Lose at Purdue and play awful, then rebound and beat Nebraska at their place...costing us the Legends division.

Nailed it. Time to sack up, no way around that. Run whatcha brung, let it all hang out, go for broke. How ever you want to say it. Play hard the whole game every week and take some boys to the wood shed, school them, lay the wood, pedal to the metal. Ok I'll stop.

If we lose at Purdue we don't win in Lincoln on Thanksgiving Day. I'm not buying what your selling.

It doesn't matter how we got here, or any of the other teams. As of right now it is an essential three game season for the legends division. Any hawk fan would have taken that preseason.

Wouldn't you rather lose early in the season on the road, than late? I really feel good about the next two games.... Who knows what could happen that Friday after thanksgiving! Hawks win out the regular season, will save my B1G Championship prediction for when I found out our opponent.

My worries then would be if a 9-3 Michigan team get picked over a 9-4 Iowa coming off of a B1G Championship game loss?

Miller is predicting MSU finishes 6-2, with a win over Iowa. That obviously means that MSU loses to someone else (I'm assuming @ NW, which is very possible the way NW is playing now).

If our game against MSU flips and we win, according to Miller's other predictions, we are in the championship game at 5-3, since he assumes Nebby will lose to Penn State and @ Michigan (which I believe will happen).

It really comes down to MSU - beat them and it really gets interesting.

Division play is a heck of a lot of fun, because you only have to beat out 5 teams to get to the final game, not 11.

I really think we have enough going for us to defeat MSU. They are having difficulty running the ball and Cousins does not run well. Can we move the ball on them? Minny did. I hope we can. It will be a great game. The winner has the inside track to the championship.
