Miller & Deace Post MSU: Not a Pick Me Up Podcast

Have to disagree with you Jon. Does it kinda suck? Yes, but big deal? Not really. Lets pretend Alabama offers you, along with Iowa. Who you going to pick? Id have one heck of a time not going to bama. That said, its a huge mistake on his part. Be a stud at Iowa, or not noticed at bama? I do hope he does well, but it aint gonna be easy...

Ross P leaving is a big deal

I would be more worried if we had lost him to anyone but Alabama. I don't see how anyone says no to bama right now. Every game on national tv, playing for a NC every year and almos guaranteed to get drafted.

If we had lost him to nebraska or illinois, Id be very worried.

(this only applies to OL, I AM very worried about recruiting almost every other position)

Youre a special kind of stupid arent you...We are hitting TX harder than we've hit in YEARS! We are blitzing so much more. And it bit us saturday. Id say thats not boring. We also went after and got a very fast juco. I think his names Powell or something? I dont mean to bag on Davis, I generally dont do that, but hes one of the bigger busts as of late. He just wasnt that good. He was average at best. If he would have actually caught 1/2 his drops last year, we may have won 2 more games, if not 3...You say you dont really follow recruiting, but then you say we're NOT recruiting all these areas? Come on man

What's stupid is opening your reply with an insult. Pretty much negates anything you said after since it's impossible for me to think of you being civil.

I don't follow recruiting that much. I from time to time will see how we're doing, but I don't check that forum every day. Usually pay more attenion in Jan when it gets closer to signing period.

We are blitzing more on defense, and yes it did bite us. We have to blitz because our front four cannot get to the QB. They have definitely grown from last year, especially against the run, but we don't have speed on the edge to get to the QB.

Powell is fast, but if we can't get the ball to him, what does it matter? He's got six catches this year if I remember. He is playing more, so maybe we'll see some of that speed pay off (like it did against MN for one play).

Also, I read an article or post on this site about the staff's decision to focus more on an 8 hour radius of Iowa City for recruiting. That's all I know, don't know how we're doing in getting faster players from the midwest.

And for the TX recruits, maybe I'll take a look at our verbal list to see what we've got from that state.

Seeing him get more involved this week and catching a couple short/intermediate passes that weren't designed to spring him for a big play (like the jailbreak was last week) was a very good sign, IMO. I think it's a sign that he's starting to really grasp more of the playbook, and he's got a bye week to get even more time in. In fact, I think we see him finally break the two-deeps for the O$U game, jumping over Cotton and Shumpert for the spot behind Smith. I'd have to watch again, but I believe he got pretty equal playing time as those two against MSU, and he's better than both of them.

So, youre saying you didnt show your stupidity when you bashed the recruiting, and then a few lines down, you admit to not following recruiting that much? Im usually quite civil, until people start posting uneducated posts. You'd think Id be used to it around here by now..

Was it a big deal when the Hawks didnt get David Barrent in 2009? Ranked 85th player on rivals.

I think it's really funny that Jon says nobody is going to pick Iowa over Wisconsin or MSU and then Embry picks Iowa over those guys.

If you were looking for rays of hope heading into the bye week, then this podcast may not be for you. We got into a discussion of Northwestern's program and why you'd pick to play for Iowa right now over them, or Wisconsin...it didn't end well.

That is so crazy because as I was watching the OSU/Northwestern game Saturday Night, it hit me that Northwestern is a sexier program than Iowa right now. I got sick to my stomach after that. Pretty sad.

Plus, a Loan-From-the-Coach program that gets the COACH suspended. Can't be beat.

If I coach at ANY other B1G school, I save this podcast and just let recruits know that Iowa folks don't believe in KF, why should recruits?

What is really strange about this level of discontent is that Iowa has only had one bad season since 2008. They are 4-2 and 6 games left. I'm looking forward to see what they can do the last 6 games of the year. This team has been better than last year's 4-2 team.

Rudock played the best defense he will play all year and I thought did well with no ground game to speak of.
26-46 241 yds 2tds and 2 INTs

Vandenberg last year against
MSU was worse and he had somewhat of a ground game to help him out.
19-36 for 134 0 TDs and 1 INT

Firing Kurt now is the worst thing you can do, we're just about to enter another 3 year stretch of 8+ wins each year. We need to fire him after the '16-'17 season so we avoid the next 3 year down cycle of Hawkeye football.

What I don't find funny are your reading comprehension skills ;)

Speaking for myself, I am not saying that kids aren't going to pick an Iowa offer over an offer from Wisconsin or Northwestern if given the chance. Iowa still has something to sell...it's just that it's becoming harder and harder to find distinct advantages that aids Iowa in these decisions.

Are you on drugs? 2010 was the biggest pile of dog crap ever laid with that talent.

Not sure if serious....

Ross P leaving is a big deal

RP leaving, and before the season started, was a paradigm shift. We went from "why wouldn't you go to Iowa if you are an OL, especially since the HC is a former OL coach and the psuedo OL coach at Iowa and they've been to X number of bowls" to "I want to go somewhere else despite the fact that I am from Iowa, grew up a Hawkeye fan and the HC and his son would be my coaches." Huge. If RP happens to come back to the fold (not holding my breath) it would be an equal shot of enthusiam. This needs to be framed as how other coaches are recruiting against Iowa for the same recruits. What would you say if you were Wisky's coach?

2010 was massively disappointing, but it wasn't a "bad" season. I wouldn't call it good, though.

I am not sure there were any Hawk fans at the beginning of the 2010 season that didn't think we'd be gunning for a national championship, particularly, since we were sort of being discussed in 2009 until Stanzi got hurt. We had EVERYONE back. We were loaded, we had 3 yr SR starters all over the place. And then the season unfolded into a 7-5 regular season.

I too see RP flipping to Alabama as a big deal. If you are going to recruit top talent, you are going to have to out-recruit some other programs to get those players. No way around that.. And to lose a top in-state player in those circumstances that had already committed to us.. Not a good omen if you ask me. I get that we aren't going to get all of those players.. But we need to get SOME of them.

There are those who think that every time someone leaves, it's "we didn't want/need him anyway" or "he got an offer from Alabama, what do you expect?" I just can't think that way. Don't you think we'd be better off WITH these players? Of course it hurts the program if they leave, and it helps us if they come here. So in my mind, there's no such thing as a "small deal" when you're talking about 4 or 5*.
