Miller & Deace Post MSU: Not a Pick Me Up Podcast

Have to disagree with you Jon. Does it kinda suck? Yes, but big deal? Not really. Lets pretend Alabama offers you, along with Iowa. Who you going to pick? Id have one heck of a time not going to bama. That said, its a huge mistake on his part. Be a stud at Iowa, or not noticed at bama? I do hope he does well, but it aint gonna be easy...

If his goal is to play in the NFL, he'll get there if he's good enough. The NFL is littered with guys who played at schools that nobody pays attention to.

That is so crazy because as I was watching the OSU/Northwestern game Saturday Night, it hit me that Northwestern is a sexier program than Iowa right now. I got sick to my stomach after that. Pretty sad.

No they're not. They're still an afterthough nationally. Let's not pretend that NW will ever get a primetime slot on ABC if they're playing someone other than Michigan or Ohio State. They still don't have the cache to get a time slot like that on their own merits.

This.

And they'll get passed up by a Michigan or Nebraska or even Wisky in a heartbeat.

Couldn't disagree more with the first statement. 2010, 2011, & 2012 were all bad. The B10 has been a poor football conference for some time. 4-4, 4-4, & 2-6 are flat out bad records and Iowa's non-conference is always filled with tomato cans. As for the second bolded statement, I agree completely. I do believe this team is better and I think they can get a few more wins. But it was disappointing to see them get physically beaten like they did when they pride themselves on being physical. At least the "Bullies of the B10" nonsense can finally die.[/Look at the win totals for big ten teams since 2008. Iowa is right up near the top. That's not being bad. Even with last year Iowa is 4th in big ten wins since 2008 behind Michigan St (1) Wisconsin (2) and Ohio State (3)
We should never be behind Wisconsin and Michigan State in anything. They are peer schools to us and we were clearly superior to both of them from 1981-2009. We have fallen WAAAAY behind them in the last 4 years, and that is and should be completely unacceptable.

They are a sexier program than Iowa right now for many reasons:

* Coach (#1 reason) - young, energetic, and has been moving the program upward since arriving......big programs are putting him on their shopping list

* Style of play - fun to watch, exciting, entertaining

* Ranked last year and again this year.......5 straight bowls

* Program and the coach receiving all kinds of positive press these days

* Brings fun to the game for the players........including attending/participating Navy Seal training camp this summer

* When is the last time IA had Game Day and a full evening time slot? OSU wasn't it and at The Shoe several years ago.....more current than us.

* Three of their top 4 star verbals thus far this season also had offers from Iowa.....guess who won? These players and several others listed on their verbal list had multiple offers from noteworthy programs (TX, MI, NE, PSU, MSU, WI) yet still choose NW. Who are we competing with these days?

Anyway, I find the argument more than debatable. Let's see how we stack up against OSU in a couple weeks. I don't think it will look anywhere near as competitive as NW made it. My only advice to NW would be that one needs to be very cautious about offering a big $$ long term contract to their coach in order to hold on to him. Things can change :)
