Speaking for myself, I am not saying that kids aren't going to pick an Iowa offer over an offer from Wisconsin or Northwestern if given the chance. Iowa still has something to sell...it's just that it's becoming harder and harder to find distinct advantages that aids Iowa in these decisions.

I agree, Jon. So let me ask the question... if you were AD, what do you see as the solution?

1) I start asking around my top 2 candidates. If they say yes, I ask Kirk to resign. If he says no, I fire him.
2) I acknowledge that what made the Wisconsin and Northwestern brands were two brash coaches, who were totally unapologetic for what the schools were not. And they acted like a kid about to get laid for the first time when talking about what their schools were.
3) I hire a new sports marketing director to make the Iowa gameday experience better and more modern.
4) I put together a 10 year facility plan to put us in the upper half of the B1G and ensure that we are above schools like Minnesota, Northwestern, Illinois and on par with Wisconsin and Nebraska.

There are no Ames, Wacos, Manhattan (KS) or Lubbocks in the B1G. Even the worst college town (West Lafayette) is still fun. The good news is that this means that Iowa City is incredibly marketable and incredibly easy to sell. The bad news is that so is every other town. If you don't have a winning program with huge facilities, and a coach that is fun to play for, that also puts his best players in the NFL, you are in big big trouble.
 
Certain positions will be attracted to Iowa. Despite how bad we are currently we still send offensive lineman to the NFL with some regularity, same with TEs. But outside of those positions? I don't see why you go to Iowa at this point. Lets say you are a stud WR who runs a 4.4 and can stretch a defense, guess what? Kirk is playing the other guy who blocked better in practice over you.
 
Being from Iowa and being a fan I always used to think where would I go if I was a good football player. I always thought it would be Iowa if I played OL, TE or defense. Now Im not so sure.
 
If Weisman cant go..you are right ,Daniels needs to play period. Weisman got his opportunity last year only because of getting wiped out at that position. Had that not happened..Weisman is still a fb rarely touching the ball.. NW isn't more talented..their coaching is much better than us.

Iowa needs to hire the FB version of Fran(Fitzpatrick) to get us back to competing for BIG championships. Now all we are hoping for is to make a third rate bowl.

What's the point ? best audience for this podcast is Gary Barta and the Football staff. It just fuels the negativity on this forum. Recruits will listen to this. Still there is something very theraputic about complaining. God knows I do it on this forum too.

We all knew this year would be blah meh.

If the hawks don't deliver next year, Barta must act.
 
We've seen that talent on this team can overcome the game day coaching (most of the time). The difference now is we don't have that same talent on the team.

I haven't followed recruiting that much, but are we focusing on getting speed into this program? I know we changed our recruiting map, basically eliminating FL and the West Coast.

But we don't seem to get much out of the midwest or south either. Did we give up on Texas as well? I see we've gotten a few players, but mostly on the defense side of ball.

We also need to quit burning redshirts. Think how much better our offense could be with Kennan Davis playing his 5th year. Yeah, he didn't turn out to be the stud we were all hoping for, but having SOMETHING on the outside for Rudock to throw to would benefit the offense.

Instead he was wasted as a freshman, sat behind some of the best WR Iowa has produced (which maybe to be fair to coaches, they didn't realize how good DJK and McNutt would turn out).

This program is stale. NW is a fun team to watch, and if they had the horses/depth, they could have really beat down tOSU. That is a program on the rise, and they don't even come close to being able to offer the same thing Iowa does.

Our schemes are boring. The fact we send players to NFL means nothing if we don't WIN. It's time we get a little sexy, cause I'd rather have fun losing than watching this current mess.

I think he should act after this year if Iowa fails to go to a bowl game. Empty seats cost the athletic department loads of money and the big donors will be squawking if the team flops the last 6 games like they did last season. Retaining KF for another season could cost Iowa more than what his buyout is worth if Barta does not do anything.

HUGE, if Iowa was coming off a Orange Bowl or Insight Bowl win I think he is still committed to Iowa. But seeing the program going down in flames, coupled with getting an offer from Alabama, drove him away. What a difference 2 years makes.

Youre a special kind of stupid arent you...We are hitting TX harder than we've hit in YEARS! We are blitzing so much more. And it bit us saturday. Id say thats not boring. We also went after and got a very fast juco. I think his names Powell or something? I dont mean to bag on Davis, I generally dont do that, but hes one of the bigger busts as of late. He just wasnt that good. He was average at best. If he would have actually caught 1/2 his drops last year, we may have won 2 more games, if not 3...You say you dont really follow recruiting, but then you say we're NOT recruiting all these areas? Come on man
