Mike Zadick in Illegal Hunting Probe

Looks like Hawkeye12345 should have just called Zadick to get that coon out of his backyard.

I wonder if his wife knows he was hunting beaver illegally?

Why is it that hunters like you poach, which is so detrimental to the sport you love so much. Stupid!!!

used to shoot coons all the time in corn crib and trees near by out of season...never shot deer out of season

poaching is poaching i understand that but killing coons out of season happens way more than deer...its coon season all year long on the farm

You have no idea, but you just opened one big can of worms with this statement, check out the thread about a coon in the backyard and you will understand why.

SHHHHH! I don't need Pin2 mad at me now, too! Jeez, Scott. :D

Zadick most definitely can and, in my opinion, SHOULD go to jail if all this is true.

While not on the same level as George Waters, it is still pretty darn bad if all the facts are indeed that.

I love Zadick for what he has done for the program. But, when the law is broken you should be punished.

Period.

it involved 5-6 other ppl maybe more this could be a good part of the wrestling team if so this will be BIG news in the wrestling world and title shot is out the door for sure

not smart

guy's living up to his name, that's for sure
Mike's A Dick
yeah, I know, unoriginal, but I couldn't resist

As long as human beings are being killed in accidents hitting deer and there property is being destroyed to the incredible magnitude that it is right now, the DNR has an obligation to increase the quotas. The never will (without legislation forcing them to) because they make so much money on keeping the population high. This is a flagrant form of corruption, sacrificing human life to bring in more money.
As far as violating the regulations of course it is not good to do. I do think the punishment could be considered cruel and unusual. It is ridiculous to charge someone $20,000 and confiscate their vehicle, guns, etc just because they killed a pest.
Many of you out of staters and city folk don't realize how big of problem deer are in this state. They cost farmers millions of dollars in crop damage and thousands of accidents a year, some of which have fatalities.
The government's function should be to protect the population from such problems, not magnify them to line their own pockets.

The wrestlers have been already found to be not involved with the coon hunting incident(they were not actually doing the hunting). They are not being charged. There was another individual involved who may be in trouble. He is not involved with Iowa wrestling. As far as I know, Zadick was not involved in the wrestlers and the coon hunting. The wrestlers were involved in a prank that went astray.

I do not believe that press release is very fair. IF he hunted coons out of season that is definately wrong. However, IT IS legal to hunt raccoons with a light after dog has treed animal. Student states they were hunting with dogs. Sounds like he is a trapper with beaver pelts. Also not uncommon for trappers to check traps before sunrise. In which case you will carry a high power light to see sets, and carry a handgun. Standard protocol is to confiscate all animals/products from house during investigation. This does not mean any of the deer were harvested illegally. We will have to wait and see how this plays out. Too bad they killed and skinned those raccoons so early. It was so warm they are not pime yet and would not be worth a dollar. Someone has a proper license in the group because fur buyers will not buy from someone without a current fur bearers license. I do not know anyone who will go through all that work without some knowledge of fur dealing process. I hate it when I lose my beaver. Good luck coach.

lots of good points on the lights and handgun for the traps...i'll never forget checking traps and catchin a half alive badger eeeek!

I'm not saying yeh or neh either way guys but correct me if I am wrong muzzle load season is going on, so to say it was just a bow and that's all that could kill the deer is incorrect, right?

I have heard a ton of stories about the wrestling team and some crazy *ss hunting stories which cannot be legal. I am not a hunter but the stuff they were doing is just insane to rational humans. Wrestlers are crazy little guys.

I've known people who have been caught in the DNR crosshairs. Definitely NOT the people you want messing with you

I don't think you really now what you're talking about. raising the quotas isn't really going to do much considering most southern tier counties don't even fill their antlerless quotas now as is.

we built our neighborhoods, cities, and started farms in the homes of these "pests". who the hell are you to say that it is our right to exterminate them? and please don't repeat your little "people die in deer-vehicle accidents" argument, because it is completely ridiculous. even without seeing statistics, I'd be willing to bet that < 1% of deer related automobile accidents result in fatalities. And even then, most likely a large majority of those are due to someone swerving off the road or into oncoming traffic instead of just hitting it (like you're taught to do).

the DNR's obligation is to maintaining the natural resources in the sate of Iowa. they have biologists and folks that are far more educated than yourself that determine at what level deer populations shoud remain and what areas need to be controlled better (hence the fact for different quotas in different counties).

and regardless of this entire argument on deer quotas, there are rules when it comes to harvesting animals in the state of iowa. if someone chooses to violate these rules then there are consequences just like any other law. those involved were well aware of this.
