Michigan St Dirty Recruiting - please elaborate

And I think its funny to call out a school for dirty recruiting when your school had to report a violation with the same kid....

That's not dirty recruiting. That is recruiting. Does Jon really think that Michigan State is the only school using that against us?

I'm with this guy. I really don't see too much problem with Michigan State did. You don't think people have been using JoePa's age against him for about the last 10 years, telling kids that 'You know, he's probably not going to be there for your entire career'?

What was the secondary violation? I'm curious as I don't know.

And just because what MSU did wasn't illegal doesn't mean it wasn't a whole lot worse than a secondary recruiting violation, which can be as simple as having a jumbo-tron on at the stadium. It's also worth mentioning again that these comments are laughable coming from an OSU fan.

Bringing up the Rhabdo thing is ok. Stating crap like the coaches were going to be fired in a couple of days is lying and flat out despicable. If Iowa lied about anything regarding another coaching staff then they, too would be despicable. Haven't heard or seen any proof of that yet.

And saying about JoePa "he's probably not going to be there your entire career" is making an educated guess based on his age. The word "probably" means it isn't a lie-if that's what they've been saying I guess.

Here's the article on the alleged recruiting violation. Haven't seen a followup as to whether it was reported or not

Iowa looks into alleged recruiting violation | Hawk Central
In the letter, obtained through an Iowa City Press-Citizen records request, it is alleged that an assistant football coach had off-campus contact with a prospective student-athlete during a recruiting quiet period. The period in question is after the student-athlete’s junior year but before July 1.

Good point, I suppose.

I also think it's funny to comment on rules violations if you're connected with tO$U in any way. Just sayin.

Do you think The Sweater Vest will keep his job? I think he probably will. My hope is that they have scholarship limitations... :)

My guess is that there has been some bad blood between these two programs even prior to the Cooper incident.

I remember watching last year's game and thinking there were some strange things happening both on the field and off. Can't remember what they were now but maybe someone else can recall.....play calls/time outs prior to the end of the first half.....lack of coach handshakes/greetings, etc.

I could be wrong on this but i don't see Ferentz bad mouthing Joe Pa in any way shape or form.

I agree to an extent...but I don't really know exactly what MSU said to Cooper. Did they flat out say Iowa is firing some of their staff in the coming days? Or did they 'make it sound' like they would be firing their staff in the coming days? Jon's post said that they 'made it sound' like Ferentz would be fired as well.

There are a lot of ways to make it sound like something will occur...you say just enough (without really saying anything at all) and leave the rest to the imagination, then you really aren't spewing lies.

I could speak in more definite terms as a rival coach in regard to JoePa: "JoePa is really getting up there and age and will be retiring, if not this year, then in the next couple years." Or: "Look at JoePa. He's been around a long time but has had some health issues lately. How much longer do you you think he'll be around?"

I'm not condemning Iowa for the violation, just pointing out the irony of complaining about MSU's tactics. OSU may have to vacate wins but I'm confident scholarships wont be taken. Tressel should be fine unless something else comes out....

Didn't Iowa report a secondary violation in the recruitment of Cooper? I bet MSU thinks Iowa "out-dirtied" them for Cooper....

Apples and Oranges......All programs, and I mean all programs self report secondary violations from time to time. Not all programs run down other teams, bad mouth, lie, and negative recruit.

I'm of the opinion of who really cares? I mean I would say Michigan St. is more p!ssed off that we beat them in the last seconds 2 years ago, and b!tch slapped them last year.....:D

Unless something else has come out there wasn't a violation reported, just a inquiry to look into it from the NCAA.

The thing about negative recruiting, especially in conference, is that it can really backfire. If you do it to the wrong player, one who really respects and admires a coaching staff and program you are bashing, it will firm their commitment and resolve further. Especially against your program.

One need only look back at last yrs game for evidence. Many of us couldnt figure out why ARob was still getting carries in the 4th qtr. Stanzi was still in the game. Especially with the score the way it was. It sure looked like KF wasnt taking his foot off the gas.
I dont like Dantonio.

true. I don't think I've ever seen ferentz with such look of anger/hate as when he shook hands with dantonio after the game.
