Memo To Kurt's Body Snatcher:

Seriously, body snatching? There's no real science behind that; pretty unlikely Kurk was affected by something that may not exist.

Apply Occam's Razor and look to the obvious: large quantities of illegal drugs.

Kurt Ferrets didn't want to score that many points, but the dang special teams, and D keep putting it in the end zone.

I really thought that it was real good sportsmanship when he mad the team start taking a knee instead of trying to rub it in with another score. Now that's class unlike other coaches in the NCAA. GO HAWKS!

Stick around. For God's sakes please stick around.

Just a mirage...easier to change game plan and get more aggressive when the special teams and D spot you 21 points.

The first quarter was atrocious, Iowa chose to once again try running into 8 and 9 man fronts, running outside zones on 3rd and short with Weisman who is not so good on the lateral shift stuff.

It was a great team win, but the offense still looked average at very best

I *hope* this is setting up future PA and other playbook wrinkles. I hope. Kidding and sarcasm aside (very briefly), our coaches are not stupid - they really aren't. There has to be some method to this seeming madness. I'm old enough to remember Hayden's playbook evolution each season in the 80's, he preferred not talking about it, but it was evident. Started simple, added wrinkles every couple games. For example the two-TE set would be rolled out around the 2nd or 3rd conference game, like clockwork.

This is where the angry Kirk Krew scream that you're never happy...we won 59-3 for god sakes!!!

Careful, Jon. This is where the Kirk Krew scream at you... "For god sakes, we won 59-3, are you never happy?!!!"

Never mind that you're right.

For purposes of full disclosure, I was at Barnes and Noble with the kids and missed the first quarter. So much for my hypothesis.

Even staunch supporters of KF can't(well...at least shouldn't) disagree that the offense needs some improvements. Its miles better than last year...but quicker starts, adapting to defense, and a few wrinkles all need to continue to get better as the competition gets better.

Not gonna play any more teams as weak as the last 3, nor be able to count on 28 points from def/st.

Next week and the following will tell us a LOT about the future of our offense...even for next year.

Cautious optimism...

I think Cautious optimism captures it well. If this team continues to improve (including the coaching) we could be bowling. If it flattens out like last season.... we're sub .500 again.

I think confidence will play a huge role in whether or not they can make a splash in the B10. The offense never looked confident at any point in the season last year. This year they seem to be gaining some traction. If they can keep growing and start to address some of the play calling issues as Jon mentioned I think they have a legitimate chance to surprise some people. I understand the Hawks are going to try running it on everyone, but you have to mix it up occasionally to keep the defense off balance. There were perfect opportunities in those first couple drives to use play action or set up some screens, but instead they chose to run Weisman again which was exactly what the defense expected. The play calling improved as the game went on, but when they start to play better teams there is no reason to play it so conservative in the first quarter. Start attacking when the game starts. You can't get those minutes back.

In my gut, I would have stuck it in the endzone one last time for a dagger. Insert and twist, if you will, against a team that has caused the Hawks headaches the past couple times. What are we afraid to hurt feelings?

Iowa had a 56 point lead. I think the knife had been twisted enough.

Was for sure a very fun win today for the Hawks for the first time in a while I was proud, BUT hold on over under win total from here is 2.

well, really, the O scored 31 points. special teams scored 14 and D scored 14. was a great win, for sure. also great that some backups got some quality snaps in. we might need them down the road.

What does one more score accomplish?

And if I was the opponent I think it would **** me off more to have somebody take a knee rather than run a play to prevent scoring because I was getting my *** kicked so bad. I don't need your sympathy type attitude.

No need to put another bullet in a cold corpse. They were done. We marched down the field and ran out the clock, it was clear they couldn't stop us. Statement made. Putting it in their face again as the clock runs out would have been an act of pure vanity, and shown how desperate we were for a big win. (unless it was ISU, of course. then smear the dog poop in their face)

And they're under a young, first-year coach. If ever there was a time and a game where you play it like that...this was the game. And I'm glad we did.

I thought Hawks were going to go for TD the last drive, but Coach Ferentz continued to show his class by kneeing the ball.
