Melsahn is a daddy today

Hey, good for him. I hope he enjoyed his free time, extra cash flow, ability to "hit that" at will, and overall freedom.

Jkjk, of course.
Congrats to him. The kids are the greatest, evah.

i read what he wrote next to that picture - very well done.

best of luck to him - i can't imagine 'doing this' as a college aged student and all that goes with that, let alone being also a basketball player and not married (i assume).

best of luck to him - yes, this very much changes your life (for the good) forever.

Dare I ask the obvious?

--Do we think coach knew?
--Is the girl in Iowa City?
--Either way, is this going to be a distraction both mentally and financially during his senior season?

I can't imagine trying to be a dad with everything else he will be dealing with. He will have to step up to the plate. But from I've seen from him in my limited interactions, he'll be up to the challenge.

I'm guessing this is why Basabe was excused from the PTL to go back to New York and work all summer. He wanted to make money and get his foot in the door for jobs after graduation. Duffs prediction of Basabe being a lottery pick never materialized but I think he could have a nice career in Europe.

Also, you seem like a drama queen.

I think this issue is a lot bigger than Iowa basketball. Melsahn and the mother have made a decision that places this beautiful young child at a fairly significant statistical disadvantage. In addition to the obvious time challenges I wonder how he plans to support this child without a job? I hope he has some independent source of wealth(that is of course within the NCAA rules). Good luck to all involved.

Congratulations, Mel. thousands of people your age decide to have children. Enjoy the supreme joy of a child while continuing to bring the Hawks back to glory. I am certain Fran and Marge will provide all the help you might need......

If Basabi does play overseas that doesn't mean the mother and child will be with him. I haven't heard any news of Basabi getting married or wanting to get married. There are plenty of ex jocks children floating around. Doesn't Roy Marble have at least three or four.

After reading what he wrote beside that photo, I am very happy for him...the spirit of what he wrote is sensational.

I forget the player for Ohio State last season (I want to say his name was DeSean), but didn't he have two kids? It can be done.

I don't know Basabe, and I hope everything works out for the mother, her child, and Basabe. There are lots of people that talk the talk but will never walk the walk. Talk is pretty cheap.
