Meet McCaffery Monday Night at CHA

What are the odds he and/or Barta get booed by at least a portion of the crowd? Given a lot of the reaction I've seen online thus far, I'd have to say the odds are actually pretty good.

It isn't that I won't or don't already support Coach McCaffery, it's just not at all the route I expected or thought Barta should take after firing Lickliter. I completely and entirely support Iowa basketball and I hope it get's back to the glory days sooner than later, and I hope Coach can get it done, and I hope the fanbase as well as the administration gives him the time and support needed. Although not my favorite choice, I am sure he will win me over as each day passes throughout his tenure, and this is a great start. I think all Iowa fans should whole-heartedly appreciate the idea behind this meet and greet with the fans. I wasn't too happy about this yesterday, but I find this to be extremely encouraging. Hope lots of you make it out there! And I look forward to thoughts/impressions of those able to attend. Not the hire I hoped for, but great, great start to his coaching career at Iowa.

That would be an aweful thing to do. While I may not have a good opinion of the coaching hire but booing our new coach does not even enter my mind. I will find a way to wrap my mind around this hire to still be able to support our Hawkeyes.

Zero, because Iowans are not like that. The folks that are posting on there that are not happy about it are not likely to be motivated to get in their cars and drive to Carver Hawkeye...how do we know that? Just watched 18 home games this year.

No matter what people think of the hire, that would be embarrassing and completely wrong.

Whether you like the hire or not, Fran McCaffery is the head BB coach at the University of Iowa. Neither *******, moaning, complaining nor booing is going to change that. Why not look at the situation as a glass "half-full" rather than "half-empty"?

Will be be successful in Iowa City, only time will tell. One thing that we know is that if the fan base doesn't get behind the man, it's certainly going to be a whole lot more difficult isn't it?

Good stuff.

No way Barta or McCaffery get booed, no way. Those that will attend will be in full support of the hire, as the rest of us should be. He will be the coach for the next several years so we should all get behind him no matter if you were in favor of the hire or not. He wanted to coach the Hawks and made his intentions known. That is more than we can say for alot of other coaches during the search. Embrace it!

If anyone even thinks of booing, they should stay home and chew on nails. What a stupid post. I know you were just trying to get people riled up but that goes beyond...

If someone were to boo at an event such as this, they should never be allowed to an Iowa event of any sort again...

True and false.

I agree that the majority of the overly-critical, never-happy anonymous negative message board posters will most likely not have the motivation to waste their precious time coming to CHA tonight to be a part of a hiring they don't approve of.

But as far as the "Iowans are not like that" idea..... I guess that's what I believed too, up until a couple of years ago, when I witnessed fellow Iowans booing our football team and coaches off the field.

Booing will get you a beat down by an ex-Star women's basketball player and a few thousand Hawkeye fans. Do it at your own risk.

LOL, that would be great. And you're probably not too far off in that prediction.

I really don't think there would be anything liek that - at least I would hope not. And I wasn't trying to "rile anyone up," NewMex. Just kinda disheartened by a lot of the reaction I saw.
Anyway, whatever. Just glad that the search is over and that we can start anew. Feels good to be turning the page.

Curious what the athletic department will do to sell this coach to Iowans that haven't been watching this team the past couple of years.

Whoever is in charge of running the presser and the meet-and-greet tonight better be on top of their game.

One good way to sell this coach to the fans is to have B. Allen show up and sign a LOI in front of the group.

Also, it would be good if the four recruits were there.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I'd be completely ashamed as a Hawkeye fan if this were to happen.

Better not be any. Are you going? Going to Boo? This is just a meet and greet. Only attendees will be supporters. What, you think there will be picket signs out front?
You are a DB
