Media Bomb?

When you hear rumors that two popular former Hawkeyes are going to make disparaging remarks about the state of the basketball program, I think that qualifies as a media bomb on the horizon. Now, did they make "earthshaking" remarks? No, nothing we haven't heard before. However, it did come from them -- which holds a lot more cache than any one of us saying the same things.

It really doesn't hold THAT much more water than when we say the same things. They were closer to the success of the program back in the day than any of us, so naturally they are going to be dissappointed about where it is right now. I didn't hear what they said, but unless they were saying we need to can Lickliter, then it's nothing. Because while to most of us guys like Jess Settles are legends whose opinions are the be all, end all of things, they really are just fans nowadays. They hold no higher place than the rest of us when it comes to how the program is run. They are just higher profile.
 
I've also heard that there is some good news coming soon. No details really, but just that it will be a great relief from all the negative stuff.

You heard wrong, it wasn't Guy Rucker, it was Jess Settles got a 9th year and is coming back next year.
 
I don't think we are thinking with enough awsomeness... what would peice of great news would create a media bomb....

Any chance Harrison Barns suprise commits to Iowa taking Tuckers schollie?

It does hold more water than what we say. All programs want to use their former legends for recruiting etc.... If you have a small number of them making remarks that is equal to a thousand of us. You need those players to be able to say great things about Iowa so possible players will have a good perception about the Hawkeyes. So, just my opinion, but their remarks do hold a lot more water than what you or I say.

I don't think Kenyon Murray or Jess Settles have one bit of impact on recruiting. A seventeen year old kid was 3 years old when Jess and was 6 when he last stepped on the court. Neither one of them has long stand out professional careers which would enhance thier impact beyond those who saw them play in college. They might be hawkeye legends to you or I but most 17 year olds I know would be saying Jess and Kenyon who?

You might not think so but they do. A kid might not know them but when they read an article about any former Hawkeye players and what they say about the program that impacts them, even if only a little bit, positively or negatively. So each former player does impact recruiting. Just my opinion though.
 
Maybe Kaylon Williams is close to comitting? Harrison Barnes surprise comitt would be nice but i dont think its happening.

That assumes these kids read newspapers. We all know that isnt true. Unless they make a guitar hero song about what Settles and Kenyon said these kids will never care

I heard that with North Carolina's struggles Barnes is having second thoughts and Iowa is in his top 78 schools he is considering

Agreed. When former players start coming out and saying less than positive things about the program, that would qualify as a bomb. Although I thought both Settles and Murray were pretty professional with their interviews. It could have been much worse.

Katz's comments weren't surprising. And are more than likely the opinion among most of the national sportswriters I would think.

Not only that, but they weren't relavent to the article at all. Not surprising considering the author.

In my hawkeye bb-centric world this could only be:

1. A commit from a top player
2. the new practice facility is ahead of schedule and will be open for next fall semester.

Long shot...lick stepping aside for personal reasons?...joking...:)
