Meaning of a Hawkeye Victory over Wisconsin

I expect Iowa to lose, so won't be disappointed if they do. If they win, it will be that much more enjoyable.

A great bowl game hangs in the balance on this one. Why Iowa WON'T beat Bucky:

Watching the videos of the players commenting 2 crucial points brought up that we haven't fixed all year won't get fixed Saturday.

1. Boettger: We practice against some version of the 3-4 every week because everyone runs some 3-4 against us.

Analysis: Yes that's why our offense looks so pedestrian. Glad to know we practice against it every week and still can't protect our QB. Must be coaching. This suggests almost no points for us and CJ may not make it out of Kinnick alive this weekend.

2. Jewell: We really need to cover our gaps this week.....

Analysis: Based on half the games this year we have done a terrible job of covering gaps NDSU, NW, Miami OH. None of these foes, 2 of which were Losses, were as nasty or as good as Wisconsin. This could be a major butt whipping this week and the only thing that may prevent a blowout is that running plays eat the clock quicker than passing plays which will shorten possessions and scores. I expect to continue to see us get no penetration or pass rush yet again we probably won't score 10 points this weekend and that spells doomsday for us.

I hope I'm wrong time will tell.

The problem is they practice against the Iowa 3-4. Iowa doesn't play the 3-4, so how good do you think their version is? Which players is the offense practicing against? Is it the starting defense? Or the 2's? How good are the lb's they face?

I've always assumed that's why KF's offenses frequently look surprised / confused against the blitz. Iowa is not a blitzing team, so what the offense faces in games is bound to be more effective than anything they might see in practice.

Wisconsin wins tomorrow, they can easily win out and take the West with 2 losses. Their tough games would be behind them. If Iowa were to win, Iowa could theoretically afford to lose one more game (Michigan) and win the West. A win tomorrow would put Iowa in control of it's own destiny. However, the could not afford to lose another game. But this win would be a big boost nationally.

Northwestern will probably end up with at least 3 losses (Nebraska, Ohio State, and Wisconsin) and possibly Indiana. Wisconsin would be out because of 3 losses (Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State) Nebraska will probably lose to Ohio State and Wisconsin. Which would set up for a nice showdown in Iowa City on November 25th. However, if Nebraska also beats Wisconsin, they would be in control with only one loss.

What if Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Northwestern all end up with 3 losses? Is the tiebreaker the record against those 4 teams or is it record in the West?

If this happened then they would let Iowa State join the B1G West so all three could have another win. :D

Iowa really needs this win tomorrow so they can get that "No quality wins for two seasons" monkey off their back and put it to bed.

I am hoping for the best as we generally are very competitive against Wisconsin.

However, I will not be surprised if we lose by more than three touchdowns.

If we win tomorrow and beat Nebraska, we will almost certainly be West Champions with 3 conference losses.

If they win tomorrow, people will just say Wisconsin isn't a quality win, like they did last year.

What 3 loses? Iowa is 3-1 in the conference. Michigan and who else? Illinois? Penn State?

Either one, it doesn't matter. Lose to Northwestern, Penn States or Illinois, and Michigan to end 6-3. Wisconsin would be 6-3 at best. Nebraska losses to Iowa, Ohio State, and Wisconsin or someone else. Northwestern losses at least 2 more games to end 6-3 or worse. If we end in a tie, our West record would almost certainly be better than all the other teams and we would have head to head over everyone but Northwestern. I would say if we beat Wisconsin and Nebraska and end up 6-3, there is a good 75% chance we end up in Indy.

Your probably right as some people don't ever want to give credit where credit is due. Wisconsin is a very good quality team and there is no way of excusing away a victory tomorrow. A victory would be awesome! Go Hawks!!!
