McNutt's stats up or down in 2011?

Last year he had around 50 catches and 8 tds. No doubt he will be a better player this year, and as the clear #1 WR on the team he will get a lot of chances to make plays. But will his stats suffer without DJK around? As of now no other WR has proven to be a good #2 option, which allows teams to focus more on McNutt. We also don't have a proven TE to help loosen up the defense. Throw in a strong running game this year and his stats may actually go down.

This guy has him as the top WR in the Big Ten, and after looking at other teams it is hard to argue agaisnt Mcnutt being the best in the B1G.

I think his stats will be similar to slightly up, but we need Davis to step up and be the man that he can be at #2.

I think they will go down. I think Iowa will ride Coker as much as they can. That being the case he simply won't get as many opportunities.

I think the biggest difference will be the QB. If Vandy can take care of the ball and not have turnovers, McNutt's number should be better. If Vandy's comes out and throws some INT's, you will see the team run the ball more. In this case, his numbers will be down some.

I agree with you about riding Coker as much as possible, however with the stable being a little depleted regarding proven running backs, I could see them actually throwing more to limit or stretch out Coker's carries. So I think McNutt's targets could actually go up. Not saying that his numbers will increase, but I could definitely see the looks he gets increasing.

If he's as good as we think/hope then, injuries aside, he puts up numbers. Good players make plays, anything else is an excuse. My guess is he'll start out slowly and come on strong.

If Vandy can hit him on the deep routes then he will exceed it. McNutt was wide open missed about 5-7 times last year on over or underthrown balls.....most would have been TD's.

I think we will be more balanced then expected. I think davis will get a lot of touches early to the point teams will have to respect both sides of the field.

McNutt's number of catches will go up, I think, but total yardage might go down. he's going to get a lot of attention from opposing dbacks, which should help the TE's and the other WRs.

I hope him and Vandy can mesh well early and often.

IMO if Vandy does what he is capable of MM will produce about the same but the team will produce more. RS seemed to lock on to certain wrs at times for some reason and I haven't seen JV do that. If you get open its coming to you.
I believe if the opponent pays closer attention to MM, Davis is going to have a field day. I think he is only held back by lack of reps. The spring game showed a little of what he's got.
I'm thinking the sum of the whole offense is greater than last year even with a short list at RB. Chaney and Sandeman were good but I think the guys taking their place might just be better and that will leave Coker some room to work. This doesn't include the TE's which could also but a huge threat. It also would give young guys a chance to get some reps under more favorable conditions.
OL is pretty strong and there are enough of them playing at a high level to absorb some minor injuries. I know its difficult but I'd love to see 7-8 OL be able to rotate in and not lose continuity. We have the talent its a matter of them being able to gel.
Bottom line: If JV can come out and just manage the games at first and get comfortable and then start letting his natural ability take over, watch out.
KF has already mentioned a couple times we needed to find ways to win before the 4th qtr and take advantage earlier so I expect some higher degree of aggressiveness this coming season. JV fits the attack mode a little better than RS did. RS tended to get flustered. He would commit errors by being tentative. JV already has shown he is more aggressive and won't let it bother him too much if he makes a mistake.

I think this is for sure true. As long as Coker stays healthy it should be a pretty balanced offense, bad for individual stats good for # of wins. If Coker gets hurt or dinged we could be throwing the ball a lot just to limit the number of carries the RBs get.
