He's not even on the roster. His #7 belongs to Bostick now. He's just around the program as an unpaid intern/coach helping with Oline and Qbs a little is all I've heard. Even if he was saved a scholly/roster spot his shoulder isn't healed. Sounds like that was a borderline career ender anyway. So no fear of having to worry about him putting a helmet on again for us

At this point I'd still take him throwing off hand. The kid has a knack for handing the ball off and seems to know precisely which defender is going to have a clean rush from a few years of experience behind this O-line.

Hey, the offense is... complex! It takes over a year to learn! Why do we keep using a complex offense that hasn't had much success in quite a while and doesn't seem all that hard to plan for? In years when stars seemed aligned just right 7-5, when expectations are low “2015“ No one saw 2015 coming. If the damn ball had just rolled off our players back onto the ground then we could have at least got a field goal there and that added pressure on MSU could have been the difference. BUT NOOOOOO the ball freakishly just sits there on our players back and then by chance a MSU player happens to have the awareness to realize the ball was still live ad grabs it before it touches the ground.

In 2015 Michigan was the best team in the conference and if not for a totally stupid act of incompetence by the Michigan punter against MSU (I still laugh when I see replays of the muffed punt) we would have played Michigan In the B1G championship game. Who knows how that would have come out.
………. but the bottom line is “have no expectations whatsoever“ as well stated by Fryowa.

Football Offensive Plays, Running Game: off tackle, around end, trap over guard/tackle, reverse to TE/WR,or wing back, draw play/ delay. Inside zone, outside zone, essentially same as above variation in blocking scheme. (Iowa & GB Packers et. al.) Add: man on me I post, no man on me I lead, no man on me I influence to the outside, (or inside).
Passing Game: flag, post, hook, delay opposite field, screen, flood, fly.
How many of these does Iowa not run? Anything I missed?

Bring in someone to install the wing t or wishbone. Ten wins a season, minimum. It seems so easy. If we are going to be antiquated, at least be the sort of antiquated that’s hard to prepare for.

The offense is/? very complex and places a significant mental burden on the QBs. Spencer simply did not have the quick thinking necessary to make the right decisions, or an offensive line that gave him sufficient protection to read the field. It was too complex for the QB on the field.
Having never seen practice, we could tell from the bowl game Labas was an improvement. A brilliant coach would have run whatever part of the offense Joe knew and see where a huge improvement in mobility (think of all the lost opportunities when Petras (couldn't run) and Padilla (wouldn't run) could take the team. Labas could have done that and maybe some called QB runs. Maybe throw on the run in some kind of broken fields. When you are on the bottom your only view is up.

Either change to a QB who can handle the complexity OR change the offense to something manageable for the QB's you have.

Same here. It makes no sense. If it's hard to learn and it doesn't work well.. WTF. Change it.
It's always said that "Iowa doesn't beat themselves" and that KFz is big on not beating yourself by making mistakes.
Making mistakes is one way. You can also beat yourself by making it easy for your opponent or not producing anything offensively...by design.

A very good football coach puts together a system, recruits to that system and relies on development and execution to be competitive. Do what we do. That very good coach wins far more than he loses, almost never has a losing season and produces some really good seasons with 10 or more wins. That is what we have with Kirk Ferentz.
Even the BBs don't have many brilliant coaches. They are recruiting kids that wouldn't return a call from Iowa.
Don Shula is the perfect example of a brilliant coach. Went from a ground and pound, maybe the best ground and pound, offense in the late 60s and 70's, to Woodstrock, two quarterbacks and one was a running threat, and finally Air Marino, where he's throwing 40 times a game with a statue in the backfield.
Unfortunately, there just aren't that many brilliant coaches and those that exist are not coming to Iowa. I think the problem wasn't the list of plays, the problem was two QBs that didn't know which play on your list was most likely to succeed given the defensive line up the QB faced. Then the ball would get snaped and the QBs were looking like Custer at Little Big Horn.
