mccall

His progression has been going nicely, but there hasn't been an exact game pinpointed yet that he will return. A lot are hopeful to get him back by the Minnesota game.

I wish they would just redshirt him since they pulled Canzeri's redshirt.

We've been over this numerous times. If he is medically cleared to play he can't get a medical red shirt. Besides, we need to use the best players and some thought he was better than coker (given 9 carries) so he needs to play if he can.

wouldn't rush him back during this part of our schedule, because we'll definitely need him if we want to keep up with our mid-late November schedule.

I can't imagine he'll be back this soon with a broken ankle...
The bigger question, how about McMillan? The one week we heard he was back, then they are saying not anytime soon? What gives...

Read about sports hernia. It isn't a given an athlete can return to competitive play even after surgery. Most do, but as much as 35% don't.

If McCall can play then do it. Iowa will need all the help it can get in November.

College football is all about the now. Wins today means a lot more than projected wins in the future as those projected wins may never come.

McCall doesn't need a redshirt ... he's not going to stay here 5 years ... if he's healthy/ready then he should play

The question remains: Why the hell did Ferentz pull of Canzeri's redshit for meaningless carries against La Monroe and not play him the last two weeks?

Let's see:confused:...Penn State had the lead, and threw alot of blitz packages against us...most freshmen have difficulty learning the nuances of blitz protection...let alone a true freshmen, and one that weighs less than 180 lbs. Would you put Vandenberg's health and the season, on the line with an inexperienced player in that situation?

This week, he was out with a bad hamstring ..blame the hammy.

Next...

hey guys can we start to shift the conversation back to when we think mccall plays and not talk about canzeri for once.

OK...I'll bite. First he has to heal, then rehab, then get back into a modicum of shape and practice to get the rust off, and rebuild the confidence that you are physically ready to compete again.

October 22nd is roughly seven weeks after the injury, Minny on the 29th is closer to two months. You tell me, what is realistic? It would be nice to have him available before the last four games. His experience in major college football is less than 15 plays...B1G experience...zero.

One thing we have all learned, there is no such thing as too many Hawkeye RB's. If McCall is good to go in a couple weeks? Awesome. If Canzeri is? Great. If Bullock or Johnson can carry some of the load? works for me.

I have a feeling that we will need most (if not all) of them for something by the seasons end.

Yes, all hands on deck. The college season is getting longer...Hawks could play 14 games this year, which is only two short of the NFL season, but with teenagers, not mature men like in the NFL. Prepare as many rbs as possible for the last 8 game push.
Canzeri can return kicks, and maybe take some pressure off of Bernstine. Bullock can play the slot position if K-Mart goes down. Johnson can backup Marcus,as can McCall. We need them all, until we don't,which would be a nice change for Iowa fb.

A couple things. Kirk has said that McCall is out for the season. Maybe you should believe him over 3rd hand rumors.

re: "medical clearance"
The Gazette On Iowa podcast (which is awesome) addressed this last week. In 2007, Moeaki could have returned late in the season after breaking his arm early-ish against Wisky, but chose to sit him and get a medical redshirt. If they want to redshirt a guy, a reason will be made.
