McCaffery/Barta Statement over McCaffery Outburst

If he can't control it over basketball then he probably is a loose cannon at home too. We don't need a booby knight at iowa

Be very careful with this...you assume too much. BTW, I wouldn't mind the Bobby Night results, minus the physical contact with players, etc.

So throwing your shoulder into someone as you run by is acceptable? The Illinois player drew the contact and it had a purpose, which is why the Penn State player reacted the way he did. You should never be allowed to use any body part to "swing" at someone, not just the fist.

When you originally posted that I thought you were referring to his reaction after being punched.

When I first watched the video I thought the Illinois player was just running to get back on Defense and accidently made contact but after rewatching he definetely seeks the contact.

However, I still don't think that was enough to warrant an ejection like throwing the punch.

Basketball (competitive situation) vs. home is apples and oranges. Did you copy and paste this post into every thread? I will knock them all down if you did.

Evidently the officials agree with you and not me. But when I first seen the play I thought the Illinois player was going to get ejected and it was not until I seen the replay did I even realize the Penn State player took a swing. I am not sure if they reviewed the tape on that play before making the call but the camera angle I first seen it live was completely different than the angle the official had.

To me it was an equal dirty play by both players but the Penn State player looks worse because he threw a punch. Think about how you would react in that situation if you had a player throw his shoulder into your back, it is tough to not react the way the Penn State player did. That Illinois player took a cheap shot and got away with it. We will have to agree to disagree on it.

of course they will be talking about... he might get suspended because they think they have to... if it was tom izzo sure as hell wouldn't get suspended.

But Tom Izzo would never worry about such things

Yeah cause the refs bend over for him so much he gets all the calls anyway...crying Bo is the same way

To be honest I had a bigger problem with Lickliter's enormous lack of emotion than with Fran's occasional outbursts. I like a coach that gets fiery.

You mean you don't miss him sitting on the bench with his face buried in his hands?

Is he awake in that one or asleep?

Barta has a lot of power, but he isn't a very good athletic director. If he was going to talk to Fran and express his opinion to Fran, he should of done it in private. It should of been between him and the coaching staff. Barta will probably be at Iowa a long time which isn't very exciting to me personally.

Barta just has to keep his boss Kirk Ferentz happy and he continues to get to live large... as long as the coffers keep overflowing

I think most would agree and I would have absolutely no issue if Fran got the first T. However, I don't support the bumping of an official and I don't support a 2nd technical foul in the 2nd half of a close game where every possession/point matters.

I think the 1st T was planned. I think the 2nd wasn't...and the official gets some of the blame. Or at the very least Fran gets the benefit of the doubt...from me anyway.

I replayed that over and over and the official did in fact reach out and touch Fran. We don't know if that is why he was thrown out of the game or not as he may have said something to the official. Fran has got to learn how to pick his fights. I didn't see anything in the immediate time frame that the T's happened that would make a coach that angry. If one of his players had been fouled hard and knocked to the floor I could understand Fran getting that upset in order to protect his players. That was not the case and Fran over reacted. If he keeps this up he is going to make it hard for his players to win as the officials are human and can hold a grudge and target our players out of revenge and give our opponents a definate advantage.

Did you watch Jackson shoving his way into the paint and then we would get called for ticky tack fouls inside...
