McCaffery/Barta Statement over McCaffery Outburst

This whole thing is WAY overblown, IMO.... and that's coming from a Cyclone fan. This type of thing happened far more frequently in the past, but with twitter, immediate youtube clips, etc has become less forgiving.

Passion is not the worst thing in the world and Fran didn't actually touch the ref, from what I could tell, the ref put his arm out to sort of push Fran away (do not blame the ref). Either way, it was a double T, ejection. Something that Larry Eustachy did and I fell in love with him for it.

As far as him costing the game, I actually think Iowa responded by playing better after the ejection. When it happened, Wiscy had already closed the lead.

100%.

Why didn't Ferentz get ejected from the Outback bowl and Nebraska game? The F bombs were flowing out of his mouth like water out of an artesian well. and there was no contact, if that is the big thing.

as far as 'home life'....if you read the espn article, ma has been ejected from a game previously as well. now that is spirit! :)

about the only reasonable fan that isn't overeacting here is a clone fan. If you keep it up,you'll run Fran off. We finally have a coach that has IT. We finally can talk about the real possibiliy of competing for a BIG since Mr. Davis and all you guys can spin is the negative. Fran is a competitor, the likes of which we haven't seen since Ralph Miller.

I replayed that over and over and the official did in fact reach out and touch Fran. We don't know if that is why he was thrown out of the game or not as he may have said something to the official. Fran has got to learn how to pick his fights. I didn't see anything in the immediate time frame that the T's happened that would make a coach that angry. If one of his players had been fouled hard and knocked to the floor I could understand Fran getting that upset in order to protect his players. That was not the case and Fran over reacted. If he keeps this up he is going to make it hard for his players to win as the officials are human and can hold a grudge and target our players out of revenge and give our opponents a definate advantage.

do they hold it against izzo? et al?

There was a punch thrown yesterday by Penn States DJ Newbill. He was thrown out of the game after both benches cleared. Haven't heard much about that.

If he can't control it over basketball then he probably is a loose cannon at home too. We don't need a booby knight at iowa

Until I hear of reports of Fran abusing his players I don't think we are in the same league comparing him to Knight.

Fran needs some tough love if he wants to change his behavior.

I would agree just not sure what will help him and his anger outbursts. Possibly a weekend with Buddy. Fran needs to be suspended for a couple games and required to see a therapist. He's just getting worse and there is a direct correlation between his blowups and the team struggling and losing leads.

No way... 1 kid threw a punch, the other did not. I see no reason why the Illinois player would deserve to be ejected.

I agree. I saw somewhere that if anyone from Illi was going to be ejected it would be from the bench players going on the floor but apparently there was a timeout just before so they were legally on the court, according to what I've read.

So throwing your shoulder into someone as you run by is acceptable? The Illinois player drew the contact and it had a purpose, which is why the Penn State player reacted the way he did. You should never be allowed to use any body part to "swing" at someone, not just the fist.

I seen that play and thought both players on both teams should have been ejected.

This.

Nunn just runs into the kid and throws a forearm. Newbill shouldn't have retaliated but I was begging for an Iowa player to do that last night. Wisky is a bunch of cheap players that grab, hold, and go at your legs constantly.

I don't know if I did or not, honestly. I probably did but don't remember Fran getting a T, per say. I'll take your word for it, if he did and we ended up winning the game. Do you know how many T's Fran has had at Iowa?

I don't. He's has quite a few. Especially in those first years.

I agree there should have been a foul called but still not a reason for ejection like throwing a punch.
