McCabe is like....

....the basketball equivalent of Adam Shada and Herb Grigsby rolled into one.

I dont understand Fran's facination with playing him. There was a stretch in the 2nd half where he put up 2 straight threes in 2 straight offensive possessions (missed them) and then picked up his 4th foul on a dumb defensive play and then got yanked. All in the space of about 40 seconds of game time. Just brutal!

Just glad we got the win!

put him in late vs MSU, don't understand why.

he and woody foul solo much per minutes played because they are a step or 2 slow for this level of play.

thank goodness Hawks won.

I hate to rail on the guy, because he does some good things at times, but I agree that McCabe shouldn't be on the floor late in games like tonight's. I'm sure he gets PT due to experience, but we have other guys with less experience (Gesell & Olaseni come to mind) that I personally feel more comfortable having on the floor in a big spot in the game.

McCabe is useful when he is hitting 3's... he brings the big guys out...

When he is not hitting he basically fouls too much for his other contributions to mean anything.

I think any thread or comments knocking one of our players down or being critical of them deserves NO respect from other Hawk Fans. If you're a fan, be a fan. Want be critical, criticize coaches who are making a living in their profession. Personally, I'd like to start seeing some positive and productive threads. Every point he scored tonight made a difference... take away his 7 points AND??????

99% of Woody's fouls have nothing to do with being too slow for this level of play. Neither hip checking on a screen or hedge of a screen, nor making contact on a shot instead of just going straight up, are the result of being too slow. Woody's not Gabe, but he's more than athletic enough to play at this level.

So is McCabe the new whipping boy of the site after wins...I don't understand a lot of the people here, I know it is a message board and all, but Iowa wins and a there is a thread with a players name, not positive, but negative. Good work!

They are adults, aren't they? I agree that it should never get personal and there should be a point when you shouldn't pile on too much but c'mon man.

That said, I thought he did some good things and bad things out there. I'll just leave it at that.

McCabe's stat line vs. Illinois:

In only 8 minutes played...
3 for 6 from the field, 50 percent
one 3 pointer
2 assists, 1 turnover
1 rebound
1 tip out after a missed FT

I'll take that kind of production in 8 minutes off the bench.

There is definitely a role for Zach on this team. He brings toughness, which is sometimes lacking on this team, and he's shown the young guys about hard work through example. You can tell everyone has a ton of respect for him. Another poster brought up the fact that he can hit the three and bring out a big to open the lane for White, Marble and Gesell...that's valuable for spacing. Early in the year I was hoping for a similar senior year as Eric May had, but Zach will never be a stopper on D like May was...dude was incredible down the stretch and in the NIT. I'm hoping he gets the three ball going down the stretch of the big Ten and has an incredible finish to a good career where he always wanted to play. He deserves to get his minutes...if he's hitting threes, he'll get more.

Zach just had a stretch earlier this year where he struggled from 3 point range. We know what we get as far as attitude and toughness but we need him to knock down a couple 3s a game and he'll be solid in his role.

He played 8 minutes. Shot 50% and had 7 points with 2 assists. Close this thread please.

Did you watch the game? He played terrible. He jacked up two early in the shot clock 3's when we absolutely needed a bucket and he drove to the hoop and plowed over a guy that was standing there for 10 seconds. Zach can contribute but he needs to understand his role.

Ok, that happened in a minute span. He ONLY played 8 minutes. His stats say that his 8 minutes were more productive than not. No reason to get on him about it. You can find a minute span where every player that played struggled.
