McCabe is like....

Did you watch the game? He played terrible. He jacked up two early in the shot clock 3's when we absolutely needed a bucket and he drove to the hoop and plowed over a guy that was standing there for 10 seconds. Zach can contribute but he needs to understand his role.

No issue with those shots, he's wide open and had hit his first one.

Jon go ahead and ban me but Zach shouldn't be playing at this level. Drake would be a nice fit for him. Maybe Morningside. He's just not very good.

Can't agree with this. Yes, I cringe when he puts his head down and plows to the hoop. But I Like his toughness, this team badly needs perimeter shooters and he is one, he's also got some fire in him. Zach McCabe is needed on this team.

McCabe's stat line vs. Illinois:

In only 8 minutes played...
3 for 6 from the field, 50 percent
one 3 pointer
2 assists, 1 turnover
1 rebound
1 tip out after a missed FT

I'll take that kind of production in 8 minutes off the bench.

6 shots in 8 minutes. That's impressive.

....the basketball equivalent of Adam Shada and Herb Grigsby rolled into one.

I dont understand Fran's facination with playing him. There was a stretch in the 2nd half where he put up 2 straight threes in 2 straight offensive possessions (missed them) and then picked up his 4th foul on a dumb defensive play and then got yanked. All in the space of about 40 seconds of game time. Just brutal!

Just glad we got the win!

This post SCREAMS out, "Champless...calling HomerChampless"

McCabe is useful when he is hitting 3's... he brings the big guys out...

When he is not hitting he basically fouls too much for his other contributions to mean anything.

Not so sure I agree. Late in the game, he had an offensive put-back. That used to be his primary contribution (finding and picking up the "garbage"). I still think THAT is what he does best.

I am grateful he has added a 3-ball to his reportoire, but I think he has fallen WAY too much in love with it.

What has me stumped, as has been mentioned before is Fran's substitution pattern. Each time McCabe came into the game in the 2nd half, it was during those times when he should have been the last player wwe would have brought in.

I don't like really hammering on our guys, because as has been pointed out, they are giving their best. But two things where my patience runs thin is missed free throws and Seniors not giving the type of Senior leadership we need. We need McCabe doing that MUCH better down the stretch.

They are adults, aren't they? I agree that it should never get personal and there should be a point when you shouldn't pile on too much but c'mon man.

That said, I thought he did some good things and bad things out there. I'll just leave it at that.

Was there any other Hawkeye who did some good things out there and some bad things out there. Simply curiousiity.....

Did YOU watch the entire game and do you understand the game of basketball and are you a Hawkeye fan. Serious questions......

Did anyone else on the team JACK UP two and miss them in the game....

Thought we were an uptempo team who shot quickly, I always thought that any player who shoots 50% for the game is doing OK....

I think Zach, Fran and the rest of his teammates including thousands of fans know his role in the game, and believe it or not he is necessary to this team.....

I will say one thing though about Oglesby and surprisingly enough Uthoff. Josh is shooting over 50% from three point range and Jarryd is shooting almost 50%. Wish they would shoot more threes.

Josh Oslesby: 16 of 30

Jarryd Uthoff: 13 of 27

I realize that Jarryd is in a bit of a slump. It won't last. He is a solid skillful player in his first official year of college ball in the BIg.....

I'm not a fan of giving Zack more than 10 minutes (unless he's on fire or there's foul trouble elsewhere) but 8 minutes is fine.

Personally, I'm questioning your value as a poster. Maybe you should be posting your opinions on the Coe board.

I am sure you are right, Mojo. Fran continues to play this guy, who has been a solid player for 4 years on a Big Ten team, because he wants everyone to know that Zach should have gone to Morningside. You need to go away.

Oglesby . . . check . . . uncheck
Woody . . . check . . . uncheck
McCabe . . . check

(the uncheck will come after a couple of good games)

But the question is: who is the whipping boy after McCabe?

Back to Oglesby, rinse and repeat

The difference being, when McCabe is in the game he's playing the 4 or the 5 so he's taking minutes from Basabe, Uthoff, Oleseni, and Woodbury. So it isn't necessarily just about how well he's playing. He provides a different skill set than most of those guys so in the right matchup he's a useful player. But he's also the type of player that needs a quick hook.

I prefer not to dump on any Hawks, current or former. But your comparison fails big time. Zach has struggled over the last few games. But he's made his share of tough plays and big shots over the last couple years.... plenty more impact than the guys you sited.
