Maybe Kirk SHOULD resign....

Scored in the last 2 min of half against Minnesota, scored in last 3 min against OSU, scored last min of MSU, scored 28 in 4th quarter of Indiana....there could have been more. But I'd say thats not too shabby. I get where you are going with the "mediocre" thing, but going 9-4 and 11-2 the two previous years with something like a 13 game winning streak...I'll take my 7-5 team and be proud to root for them next year.

We didn't score a point in the 4th qtr against Minny. We did have a nice 4th qtr against Indiana, but it shouldn't be a common theme to play close games against 4-8 teams. If Sash didn't get lucky with that crazy pick in the endzone, we may have not been able to turn that game around. All good teams seem to have a scare or two against mediocre teams each year, but Iowa seems to dwell in that.

I also don't know if I would consider the 2008 season a wild success. Most years I would be satisfied with a 9-4 record and a bowl win, but we seemed to lose the majority of close games. The Penn St. game was great, but we lost games we should have won against Illinois, Pitt, Michigan St. and Northwestern (blown 17-3 lead). Those teams weren't bad by any means, but it was similar to many of the losses we had this year in which we failed to convert in crucial downs late in the game. We were also lucky to escape with a win against a terrible Purdue team.

I guess you didn't read my post. It was the final 2 min of HALFTIME. Not every 2 min drill needs to be at the end of the game. My point is that they were far better the year before. They finished games. This year, they didn't. Iowa has never been a team that is going to blow anyone out nor be blown out (whether they go 11-2 or 6-6). I really don't care how they get to 9-4, nor did I care how they got to 11-2 and an Orange Bowl victory, its the results that matter. Yeah, we had a down year for our new set of standards. Higher standards come with bigger let-downs. How do you think Texas and Florida are feeling? I, for one, am not going to dwell on this year any longer. I am going to be excited to watch the Hawks in the bowl game and wait for next year. I am perfectly comfortable with Kirk as our HC. And it won't change anytime soon.

Sorry about that, I speed read and saw you said scored in final minutes of the half and assumed the end of the game.

I, unlike the OP, do not want Kirk to be fired/step down etc...

Texas and Florida might be feeling bad this year, but I would gladly trade places with them and have a National Championship. I don't mind big let downs if you compete for the championship other years. I'm a bigger wrestling fan than a football fan and I love having high expectations and competing for championships. It's fun having the target on your back. If Wisconsin can have seasons like this year where they blow out the majority of their opponents, then I don't think it is impossible for Iowa to do the same. The reason we don't is due to the style of offense and defense we play. We play a ball control offensive scheme and a defense designed not to give up big plays. This usually results in close games.

Then we agree on that. I, too, would LOVE to do that as well. Just not sure how we can do that on a consistent basis. Not sure we can.

Our football program is in a shambles and he has obviously lost control of the team.

Hopefully this mess gets straightened out, though I fear our recruiting will be hurt for awhile.

Program in "shambles"? Shambles....really............shambles? Get some counseling.

I never said I wanted him to step down or be fired. I challenge you to find any post anywhere where I have expressed that sentiment.

Anyone with half a brain knows that "Maybe Kirk SHOULD resign" does NOT mean "I want Kirk to resign". Example, if I were to say "Maybe 83Hawk has been making a complete fool of himself by trying to distance himself from his troll comments through manipulation of the English language that Bill Clinton would scoff at", doesn't mean that I REALLY THINK that 83hawk is a fool who is acting like a loser.

You people need to get off his case...
