Mark Gronowski

David Eickholt is reporting that Gronowski is visiting Iowa today... So that's pretty awesome. I'd say that'd complete the QB room if they can land him. I'd have been totally cool with Sullivan being our starter next yr but If Mark comes he'll definitely be Qb1. 6'3 230 and he's mobile as all get out to go with it. Has 37 Tds on the ground in 4 yrs has long runs of 80 and 51 on his resume. On3 has him predicted to come to Iowa for whatever that's worth. How do we all feel about this? I'm pretty stoked

If were making the shift from traditional pocket passers to scrambling QB's depth at the QB position more important then ever. I think this would be a very good pickup and despite what I think about Sully as the projected starter, I would hope there's an open competition in the fall.

If he comes here, I don't think there would be an open competition. It would be Gronowski. You don't go from FCS player of the year to FBS backup. People say that Iowa doesn't promise starting spots. If you believe that, then you're way out of touch with reality.

Also being reported that Griffin Wilde is on visit with him a 6'2 200 lb WR who had 1100 yards and 12 Tds.... Quite the two for 1 I'd say.

I am confident McNamara was promised the starting job. Pretty sure KF didn't tell Proctor he would have to earn his spot.

This kid would be an incredible get. I wonder if this would push Sully out the door.

I thought I'd seen where he was asked about Iowa bringing in other QBs and if that'd sway him and he'd said he's not going anywhere. Granted easy to say before it happens. Once you sleep on that a few nights and realize next yr is your last hurrah and all ones mind could change. Where's Sullivan from? All I know is he played for NW before us.

Every school at this level has an obligation to improve their roster when they have a chance. The coaches owe it to the team, their fans and the university. I like some of what Sullivan has done but if we can get better then we have to go for it. I'd love to get this kid.

And, there is competition everywhere. Sully aint good enough to be handed the starting job anywhere else above Division II. He came to Iowa knowing he was likely McNamara's back up. I think he would stay and fight for PT.

I think we're all thinking that if he commits, we'd have 4 QBs with starting experience in the room. I think I read where Lester has said he wouldn't mind 5-6 QBs in the room.

I read a Stratton interview where he was talking about when Lester and another coach, whose name I forget, came to San Diego to meet him and watch him throw. He committed without ever seeing the campus and facilities saying he liked Lester enough to go ahead and commit. He further stated that people have to realize they are going to be spending every day of their live with these people and it's important to like and respect the people you are going to be living, working and playing with. I think that's a big selling point at Iowa. Now watch, Stratton will be the one go leave, hah, I don't really think so.

And while I get writing this kid a fat check to come here, it is the way of things now, is he that unbelievably good that he takes the starting job away from a senior returning starter? No doubts on that? I haven't seen the kid, so maybe he is that good of an FBS player that he is sure to dominate in the Big10, but Sully is no slouch.

You could see handing the starting gig to a guy like Proctor, or even McNamara, who were star players at the highest level already. But, this kid's big games were in Vermillion and Bozeman, not Columbus and Baton Rouge.

I hope we dont end up with a surplus of NIL QB's and no WR / OL / DB in the portal - which we desperately need.
I would be OK with the QB's we have now and focus on getting some OL pass blocking and WR's who can get open and catch a ball.
I also think Parker sees the DB need and makes some moves.

You gotta have a quarterback. It sounds like if Gronowski sticks around in college, that he and his #1 wide receiver at SDSU are a package deal.
