Marble starts again...

on Saturday vs the Illini according to Fran at his teleconference today.

Says both Eric and Devyn will play a lot,and not to get hung up on starting, but Eric has had a good week of practice and so has Devyn,so he is going to go with Devyn again.

Assembly Hall is one of the more intimidating road venues in the country so hopefully Devyn can maintain his poise out of the box. Hawks cannot get down early if they hope to hang around and put pressure on the desperate Illini.

Watching Devyn last week as he air-balled spot up three pointers but then started hitting mid-range shots on the move reminded me of the old line from Robert Redford in one of my alltime favorite movies..Butch Cassidy...
Redford was auditioning his shooting prowess for the crusty old mining foreman who was looking for security and Redford could not hit a tobbaco plug from 20 paces...then Redford asked him if he could move, and then proceeded to nail the plug on the move repeatedly....and Redford said...'' I am better when I move''

Devyn seems to be a better shooter on the move. Keep moving Devyn.

I am a waayyy better shooter when I move. I still really really suck. But I really really really really suck when I shoot a set shot.

I think the biggest thing that Marble has is confidence. You can sometimes say it's misplaced, or just outright cockiness. But he doesn't go into a shell just because he misses a couple shots. He fires away, always expecting it to fall. Whereas May, if he misses the first shot, gets timid, almost afraid to shoot. If he can get past that, he could be a good player. But Marble just has a swagger about him. He should be starting at this point.

Not to mention the fact that we simply had better flow on offense with him and Cartwright on the floor. And he plays pretty good defense (most of the time).

Agree about Marble... He has some of the worst misses I have seen this year but it doesn't seem to stop him from firing up another shot. I like him starting because I like someone who is threat to score out there to start the game, especially when Illinois is capable of going on a big run right away.

I don't know if Eric May really needs to see his first shot go in for confidence or not. I almost see it as a just a statment that gets made anymore as a way to just not really look into why he tends to not get much done offensively. If he were a more well rounded player he would not have nearly the issue he does scoring with consistency. He has had games where he has scored early and still completely vanished on the offensive side of the court.

True, I'll give you that about May. I just knew when he missed his first shot against Michigan on Saturday that he wasn't going to do much of anything. I have a good friend who was just as big of a head case in baseball, and it does get frustrating to see, especially when a lot of the ability is there. He just needs to put it together mentally.

I'm pretty excited about this actually. We tend to focus on Eric May not doing so well but Devyn Marble has really improved as the season has gone on despite being asked to play at PG. I agree with others I really appreciate his confidence.

Eric May is a really good sixth man. Good defense and an energy guy who can provide a spark.
