Make Your Men's Basketball Prediction

I predict we win only a few more than last year, but all of the games will be more entertaining to watch and we will feel a sense of optimism by the end of the year. We will also have the best dunking team we've had in years with Basabe and May around and an uptempo style.

Being realistic, I see around 12 wins there, with a chance at 1-2 more, depending on the opp. in the V.I. If they get to 15+, I'll be thrilled.

Early look ,I have the Hawks winning 12 games.

8-4 non-conference with 2 losses at Paradise Jam,Wake Forest and UNI.
4-14 conference with wins at home vs NW,Michigan,IU,and Wisc.

12-18...regular season...0-1 in BTT...final number...12-19.

And I am being optimistic...we could lose to La.Tech, Wis,...but also think we could beat PSU at their place.

Not playing PSU twice is not good...they could be very average.
Not playing Wis. in Madison is ok,altho they will not be great.
The league is going to be brutal, with the new ''usual suspects'' at the bottom in Iowa,IU,Mich, and PSU..

Trying to locate more than 10 wins on that schedule was tough, but I'll be optimistic and say we'll win 11-12 total with one big upset.

I'll say 11 wins. Anything more than that will be gravy. I don't expect much in terms of record this year. I'm just hoping that by the end of the year, we will be staying in games instead of being down by 20 at halftime like we were most of the games last February.

Then just lock up some solid recruits, and win more games next year. And more the year after that.

Like pointed out above, at least the style of play should make it more like watching basketball this year, and less like watching someone play a game of solitaire.

Nobody with the guts/stupidity to risk their guesses?

I'll rashly hope/look for 16-16. 8-4 OOC, 7-11 in the BT, win the Thursday game in the BTT. The record could range anywhere from 18-14 to 13-19.

I would be very happy with 17-15, which hopefully would get us an NIT bid, and a goal that is realistic IMO. Sweeping the games against in-state rivals would make it plausible.

We could beat UNI at home; we could lose at Drake or win at home against Moo. I don't anticipate any of these things happening.

In the BT I think we win at home against Indiana, NW, Michigan, Minnesota, at Penn State, at Indiana. Possible road wins at Northwestern, Michigan. The 7th win is an upset at home of either Wisky or Illinois.

We're going to be much better than a year ago because/if (1) Besabe gives us as much on the boards and scores as much as Fuller; (2) we lost four to half a dozen games last year because we had only five playes, got worn out--and this year have four returning starters plus Besabe, and three guys on the bench who can play BT basketball in McCabe, Marble & Cartwright; (3) McCabe is the real deal, he will be as good a 6th man as anywhere other than Columbus or East Lansing.

We are a 6-10 center short of being a potential break-even team in the BT: he played HS hoops only fifty miles or so from the Iowa campus, but he will be a sophomore at Drake because the Hawkeyes never recruited him.

Cougill made it clear that he wasn't diligent about classes and study, and that the coaching staff didn't notice or respond forcefully to his failure to take his academic responsibilities seriously.

McCaffery is going to be a great deal more of a hands-on guy, to understate it; he is going to pay attention to what his players AFTER practice is over, will have an open-house approach to them, the Hawkeyes are no longer going to be strangers to their head coach, and the assistants are no longer barely past adolescence themselves but are guys with years of experience & success. Apart from any other aspects of the transition, this is the biggest and most promising consequence of the change.

Before looking at anyone else's prediction I went through the schedule and came up with 13-18. I assumed that we would be playing Old Dominion and not Clemson. If it's Clemson than I would say 12-19.

Not a good record, but they should be more fun to watch and I think they can be competitive.

Rick Brown made a good observation about how the Big Ten schedule once again kind of screws the Hawks with :

5 middle of the week home league games...and all start after 7:30 pm
only 4 weekend home league games...that stinks.

So, those jan-feb week day league home games will start late, and have trouble drawing good crowds that Fran and co. desperately need to jumpstart this program.

C'mon Hawk fans...show up!

7-6 in nonconference and 6-12 in conference for a 13-18 overall record. Best case scenario is 16-15, worst case is 10-21. We just don't have enough talent YET but I think we show signs of life next year.

16-14, 7-11 in conference NIT bid, more enjoyable style to watch so I hope the locals come out and support this team which will really help recruiting better talent. Cartwright and Brommer will benefit with the new style.

starters: cartwright or payne, may, gatens,Baasbe and Brommer

bench: mcCabe, cartwright or payne, Cole, Marble

barring injuries better depth, Fran can coach but he needs to hit a homerun in the 2011 recruiting class!

14-18 (6-12) with 1 win in the Big Ten Tourney but things will be looking up at end of season as opposed to the last 3 or so.
