I'm against public drunkeness and stupidity.
and you think this is going to solve that?
83 is that your birth year or year you graduated?
I'm going with the latter.
You must be the guy who yells at people to sit down at the games...Never said it would solve it. There is no solution. The louts and the jerks are taking over, everywhere. It gets worse every year. If people want to get stupid drunk and act like idiots..that is their business. But just ONCE I'd like to attend an event that doesn't have these morons.
Of course those that condone this type of stuff will say "just stay home." Why? What kind of answer is that? Why should *I* have to stay home and let the drunks take over? Why not the drunks tone it down? Why should the few be allowed to disrupt things for the many?
So for now I just avoid these idiots the best I can. Someday, in this permissive "me me me" society that won't be possible. Public sporting events will be ruined for those of us that want to see the game (and remember what happened afterwards) and as a place to take the family....when that happens I will indeed stay home.
Am I implying the Magic Bus is the root of all evil and the cause of all the public intoxication problems? Hardly. But shutting down a drinking spot will not bring any tears to my eyes.
That's the way I feel. I realize I am in the minority on this board, but I don't care. It is not going to change, nor do I have the power to change it. That is just the way it is.

The powers that be are taking away the magic from Iowa City.
83 is a perfect example of the person who says in my day things were different. Unless your going back to the 50's and maybe 60's this is not all that true. It's just revisionist history. There are countless stories of the crazy stuff that happened in the 80's and through out most of the 90's. And for the 70's it was the 70's.
Many people who hold this view exaggerate the bad behavior that happens at hawkeye games. They act like it is nothing but puking, fighting and getting high on every corner of the Kinnick stadium area. While dropping f bombs around 8 year olds while doing all this. It happens but at a much less degree then some portray that it is. Probably less frequently they 20 years ago as they love to state that it is more now.
It sounds in his post he is also anti drinking with the comment of shutting down another drinking area is a good thing in his eyes. So drinking period may be his issue. What is funny about this view that tailgating at Kinnick allows you to avoid the rowdy crowd if you want. There are distinct areas that are family friendly (even non drinking). Just because you don't think something is fun does not make it wrong. It is really easy to stay out of the rowdy crowd while tailgating.
As far as the actual game itself short of the student section his exaggeration of what goes on I find to be laughable. Even the students are not all the bad. You see some bad behavior but for the most part people behave themselves. If not there are security and police to take care of the problem. Just ask them.
Saw this coming a mile away. There was no reason to have required a permit except they needed a way to 'legally' get rid of the bus.
Freakin' LAME!
Any guesses on what 'cause' the liberals go after next?
Speak of the devil, an Iowa City Bar ( The Summit) has file suit over the 21 and older Bar law.
Bar sues city over 21-only law | desmoinesregister.com | The Des Moines Register
Mike Porter, owner of The Summit, believes Iowa City has unfairly targeted certain bars that used to allow 19- and 20-year-olds on their premises after 10 p.m. He says the city wrongfully denied his request for an exemption.
Porter says the denial has cost his business about two-thirds of its revenue, and he says The Summit will likely become insolvent in August without an exemption.
Lets hope the Summit makes it, there were alot of good looking women at that bar.
So he made 2/3rds of his money from minors? Dont feel sorry for him.
I agree. I went there once this spring with a friend just to see what it was like, and was thoroughly unimpressed. The place was filthy, and it doesn't have a great rep anyway (they don't call it Scummit for nothing).
One bar I would like to check out this year is the Airliner. Heard it's a pretty good place.
I liked to go on comedy nights back in my day. Hard to beat $7 stand up, even if it wasn't that great.
