What do you guys think of him moving to safety? I think he obviously has the size and we have enough depth at the 2nd corner. I posted this in another thread but never heard much. Thoughts?

I wonder if Josh Jackson is part of the reason why Mabin may move to safety. For being a true freshman he showed some great things. Hopefully he doesn't miss too much of spring practice.
It seems the only time Iowa DBs cover opponents' receivers in in the Raider package when its a third and long situation and most likely a passing down. Is Josh Jackson or Mends a better cover DB than Mabin? Who knows? Most of the time Iowa's secondary plays passive zone defense...except third and long. Would a better cover DB really matter in Iowa's scheme of things? Let's talk about changing Iowa's pass defense scheme to defend pass receptions before thinking about getting the best cover guy.I like Mabin at CB, but I do think if he plays in the NFL it will probably be at a FS (Which may end up being King's position after he graduates as well)...and I REALLY like the fact that we've finally got enough depth in the back 4 to have discussions like this!

With a good pass rush the hawks can play more press man to man coverage which they did in the first half of the year. Ott's injury changed that a lot.
