Lunardi: Iowa last in, ISU first out

No I got your point. I just think it's a completely stupid fear you have. Why don't you worry about Iowa losing the first cpl games and losing all confidence and starting 0-5 and never recovering?

What would be more satisfying to you and really think about this. Start 2-1 and finish 6-12 or start 2-1 and finish 9-9 and not make the tournament either way because in the 9-9 scenario Iowa loses to PSU/NE again, or NW at home again...something like that would have to happen to finish 9-9?

If you want to dismiss the mental aspect of the game that is fine, but if you dismiss that factor then I am not quite sure you understand sports all that much.

WTF goes on in your head? What if we start 0-7 and finish 8-10 and miss the tournament, is that better? What if we go 3-1 then finish 5-13?

It appears that there are distinct advantages to have lost the will to care and be indifferent.

Less pain....

Does the Iowa Conference still exist and could it get an automatic bid if Iowa plays there? Think of the confidence building! The peace! The Joy! the Love!

Probably go 14-0 and lose the conference tourney.

Oh well...

What if we start 17-0 and finish 17-1 and get a 1 seed? What if we go 0-19? Then we would have played too many games!

Hypotheticals don't matter guys.

Really think about the mental aspect of going 17-1? Wouldn't that be more disappointing than going 0-19?

There are dozens of teams like ISU and Iowa out there. They deserve mention as much as those teams. When you get to the tail end of the NCAA worthy teams they aren't going to blow you away and are going to have warts.

I would agree with this. Both Iowa and ISU have beaten the teams they were supposed to beat, and neither team has a bad lout of conference loss, which hasn't happened in I don't know how long. Both teams are very bubbly right now, and have a lot of work to do before either can feel good about the tourney. Conference play should be a blessing for ISU, but it could be a curse for Iowa. Hopefully we can see improvement like we did later in the season in each of Fran's first two seasons.

Is it a blessing or curse?

If Iowa were to start the BIG 2-1 and get ranked, it could be bad. There were some teams that Davis had that every time they got ranked when they were actually not really good teams and subsequently tanked for a couple weeks at a time.

Similar to making the Sports Illustrated cover.....

It is good though that they are at least still being considered heading into conference play, starting to reverse the trend.

I think teams getting off to good starts than falling is more of a product of them just not being that good but still pulling off the common college basketball upset and feasting on some cupcakes than a product of them having trouble dealing with success.

You pull off those wins at the beginning of the season, it's pretty easy to become an overrated basketball team.

Is this a serious question? You pick the NCAA over the NIT every day and twice on Sundays.

Ask every coach and player in the program this question and the ones that answer "NIT" get rid of them. No worry, there won't be any that say that.

Have to agree with that.

Iowa gets nw, psu, nu, and Purdue twice each. That's 8 games that Iowa should be able to go 6-2 in at least. Only 4 more gets you to ten.

Big 10 is without a doubt a significantly better conference this year but I could see Iowa State and Iowa ending up with similar overall SOS ratings because of how the schedule breaks down.

Holy moly. I've not seen math that good in a long time.
