LIVE CHAT LINK: Iowa vs. Xavier

Man, these guys are clutch at the line.....pretty much the difference in the game.

xavier is shooting 53%. Taken far less shots than we have - they just make them.

Cully has to have more than 1 assist in a game.

Has May been missing open shots or why is he shooting so poorly?

Archie with the double/double so far tonight. As far as I'm concerned, he's earned Brommer's minutes.
Take minutes away from Brommer and Cole. Cole has stone hands. He contributed very little tonight. Cartwright is an asset in the pressure defense, but he's playing out of control on the offensive end. Why Stoermer over Marble?

The Xavier play-by-play guy kind of reminded me of Dolphin, with fewer mistakes. Their color guy (I'm guessing one of their former players) was pretty good, had some good wisecracks about the refs.

miss shots plague the hawks. I like the way fran coaches...he got a T for tearing into the ref on a bad call against cole.

I still like this team just need some better shooters. Cartwright talent needs to catch up with his speed.

anyone know what time they will play tomorrow?

Well, here are my thoughts after watching the game:

1. Overall, the team competed hard, which is all you can really ask for this year. We all know it's going to be a struggle this year, but as long as they can compete and improve, it will be a successful year.

2. Devon Archie made a great account of himself with 10 points and 12 rebounds and played really good on the defensive end. He should get some additional minutes moving forward.

3. Was surprised not to see Marble out there more. I don't know if he was injured or did something that pi$$ed off Fran. Would have been an asset at the front of the press when we were coming back.

4. May was way off tonight. He had some good open looks, but just didn't hit them. If he hits just 2 or 3 of those, it's a totally different ball game.

5. Gatens looked good early coming off the injury, but seemed to wear out in the 2nd half, which is to be expected.

6. Still having issues on defense. We aren't athletic enough to play decent teams straight up man to man, but having a difficult time identifying people in the zone. 1st half was really bad as Xavier kept finding ways to get the ball in the middle of the lane and killed Iowa with layups when the baseline man flashed to the hoop.

7. We've got the ability to do some damage this year if we can 1) get everyone on the same page defensively in the halfcourt....our full court press really does a good job disrupting the opposition's flow, but our halfcourt defense is just bad right now, 2) hit the shots when they're open.....way too many missed open looks tonight 3) get our point guards to understand how to fast break.....the break is there, but both of our point guards look extremely tentative and indecisive on how to break.

All in all, a good effort......hopefully they can get one tomorrow.

If you can't make a free throw, you haven't earned anything. When I saw his pathetic free throw attempts I puked a little in my mouth. I'm a fat old man and I can make free throws. If you can't hit the dang rim you have thrown away your chance at playing d1 basketball. That's not acceptable. I haven't airballed a freethrow since I was 11. Archie was a disaster tonight.

I don't think Brommer is a good Big Ten player either, but he's way better then Archie..I hope that we can start playing better cause neither one of them are earning Big Ten minutes.

agree with a lot of points

Archie needs to hit his shot from the strip. I'd guess that is a big reason he's not getting a lot of time. He was much improved from the other times i saw him.

I was wondering what happen to Marble as well. Anyone hear anything on him? I hope he is not hurt.

Please post video of your days as a major college D-1 basketball player.....I'm curious to see what your game looked like.

Otherwise, you don't have a clue what you're talking about. The guy had 7 offensive rebounds, 10 points and, by the way, was 4-7 on free throws which isn't great but it's not awful for a big guy. Plus, he played good defense without fouling and has more athleticism in his finger than any of our other big men have combined. Nice try, though.

If you think Archie was a disaster tonight, you are clueless. It's late, maybe you had one too many beers? According to your logic on free throws, Shaq and Dwight Howard would not have "earned anything".

it'll be brutal to watch at times but these guys will improve as the year goes on. unfortunately they don't have the talent to win many games. Hopefully in 2 years that'll turn around should Iowa be able to keep all their guys on the team for a change.

If you are talking about 2 years, I don't think keeping all the guys on the team is really the issue. In 2 years, Gatens, Cole, Brommer, Cartright, and Archie will be gone. Add the current open schollies and it is obvious that the issue will not really be about keeping players, but signing new ones.

I was just about to say this. We should sit Shaq because he can't hit free throws. Nevermind the fact that he pulls 25/15 a night (in his prime).

No, I'm not saying Archie is Shaq. But free throws are not the #1 priority of a big man. The bigs are supposed to hit the boards and get points in the paint. Archie apparently was able to do that (didn't see the game, I was at the Dome).
