lil lick bashing threads...

this needs to stop... the kid is playing his heart out and made some big plays including a huge steal during an important run.. if he could have knocked down one or both of his threes in that stretch.. iowa has a good shot of winning.

I like payne and I think he is going to be good... but lick protected the ball better.. and Gatens wasn't getting frustrated with Lil Lick. If you notice.. Gatens eventually said screw you to payne and brought the ball down the court himself.. and as soon as payne touched it, he threw it 3 rows deep.

Payne will be great... but lil lick is giving his dad some meaningful minutes and has been playing pretty decent.. he isn't going to put up big numbers... but all he has to do is manage the ball and protect it.

Again, John Lickliter does not hurt this team when he is in the game. Leave the kid and his dad alone. All it is is just another way to bash the coach!!!

Edit: you beat me to it Boss!!!

He shouldn't be playing more than 5-8 mins per game to give Cully a blow. If his dad wasn't coach, he would be nothing more than a manager. Nothing against the kid, but he is not deserving of his playing time.

Who plays the point if Cully needs a blow, if Lil Lick's not in there?

if you are not creating plays as a pt gd, then you are hurting the team.

I think lil' Lick is playing just fine. The more minutes he gets under his belt, the more confident his game will become. Besides, he doesn't waste as much shot clock dribbling it around, I've seen him pass it around plenty.

I've said this before, but those of you who feel John Lickliter deserves more respect should start by calling him by his name. Do you not realize that many of the people who are riding him and his father for playing him use the term "Lil Lick" derisively?

Does it mean we don't respect Derrell Johnson-Koulianos as well? Noone here calls him by his name...

"lil lick. a short blow is all a 19 yr old point guard needs. all you need to do is read my post better."

Did you not watch the game? Cully was VERY frustrated. Even the announcers said they needed to take him out of the game....and not just for a quick blow.

It's really not hard to see the distinction, is it? No one uses DJK to demean the player because they dislike his father, do they?

Actually, I'd be very curious to know what John's teammates call him. Maybe he likes "Lil Lick." In any event I can assure you that many of the people using that term do not use it affectionately.

I would beg to differ. If anything, John has provided a bit of excitement that wouldn't have been there otherwise.

What? Cully had probably his best game.. Made a couple of bad passes in a row - big deal. I don't think he was rattled at all.

Cully turned it over on 3 straight possesions in the second half with nobody pressuring him and his target wide open. Literally threw it into the stands.
