If that's accurate it's absolutely ridiculous. How can a team play 4 teams as good as iowa did and still have that low of a ranking. There is no way that 260 teams played 4 games against teams as good as iowa did.
It's pretty dumb when a schedule where you play 13 really bad teams is considered tougher than a schedule where you play 9 really really bad teams and 4 really good teams.

Playing 4 North Florida’s should not outweigh playing 2 cupcakes and 2 top 25 teams, but it does. Still, we played the 4th toughest non-con in the B1G.
Yea it's really really dumb that it does. 4 teams you have a 95% chance of beating is harder than 2 teams you have a 99% chance of beating and 2 teams you have a 50% chance of beating.

Actually according to Sagarin you have the 6th hardest non conference schedule. Behind Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan, Rutgers, and Purdue. I don't know that you an argue with science.

Cool story. Iowa’s played 6 ranked teams (5 neutral/away), and is the only team in the nation with two top 25 road wins.

He forgot about wrestling, too. When was the last time UNI beat Iowa in wrestling? Baseball? Oops, UNI had to drop baseball. UNI and ISU are in the same boat.

Funny... the sites I check are all pretty close. teamrankings.com have the following numbers for the state's "Big Four" on Strength of Schedule:
#17 - Iowa
#36 - Iowa State
#54 - Northern Iowa
#240 - Drake
Of course it's early in the year and as the year plays out these numbers will change.

Hmmmm. Not so sure about those numbers.... (And I notice you're not ragging on ISU or bragging up Drake)
The Sagarin Rating rankings are:
#14 Iowa State
#26 Northern Iowa
#36 Iowa
#307 Drake
Hmmmmm again.
But all of these numbers are moot. They mean nothing at this point of the season. You can dredge this thread up in late February or early March when the Sagarin numbers are relevant.

In all fairness, it's Title IX. Schools had to choose whether to expand or reduce their athletics to keep within the guidelines laid out in Title IX. ISU and UNI decided to cut men's sports to comply. Iowa decided to expand women's sports to comply.
And the only reason I brought up field hockey is that Fairfax brought it up in his original post.
